FRANCIS THOMAS POULOS (Age 49)
Suddenly on Monday, April 18, 2011, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of Elena Poulos; father of Nicholas, Ashley, Francis II and Maria Poulos; son of Gloria M. and the late James A. Poulos II; brother of James Poulos III, John Poulos, Christine Clements, Teresa Herbert, and the late Mary Ann Granger-Alderson; godfather of Robert Granger and Andrew Poulos. Relatives and friends may call at Resurrection Church, 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville, MD on Monday, April 25 at 10 a.m. where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment private. My family only learned that Francis passed away recently. Our family knew the Poulos family as kids. Our heart goes out to everyone in the Poulos family. The Shortley's, Peggy, Tom, Tim, Todd, Ted, Maura and Katie.

My yard Will be a living memorial of Francis. He gave me a new lawn in Washington, D.C. 10 years ago and he has been a part of our family every Monday morning since then. He has touched many lives and loved his family dearly. We had the pleasure of meeting his son and beautiful daughter. I'll always remember his explanation at Daleview of a proper flip turn to a bunch a 5&6 year olds and they all learned it then and there! So many other fond remembrances....

Elena, Nick, Ashley, Frankie & Maria - We have spent several hours today looking through what had to be thousands of pictures going back at least 20 years. We had forgotten how much time the BS/Blair boys and their girlfriends, wives, children, friends and pets spent together over the years. Eric and I have shared some great Francis stories this past week. I (Lisa) still remember the first time I met Francis at a swim meet at New Mark Commons - he left quite an impression when the Daleview medley relay was disqualified for having the wrong names on the card! What a coincidence that I first met Eric later that same day at Aspen Hill pool. There are so many memories from high school, the pool, softball and football games, parties, birthdays, weddings, etc. Sadly our lives have gone in different directions and we hadn’t seen each other in a long time. Our deepest condolences to the entire Poulos family on your loss. May the memories of happier times bring you comfort over time.

Just want you to know that I am thinking of all of you right now. I am just too stunned to write something to express the depth of my sadness. Francis was an intrinsic part of my life for almost thirty years. We laughted together, raced together, had meals together and fought a couple of battles together. I am grateful for the gifts he shared with my kids and the fact that he taught them to be better not only as swimmers but as people. I loved watching him as a father and a role model. I am just immobolized that he will not be here to share our families' lives as we move on. He is a cherished person for me and my family and will deeply, deeply missed. I am deeply shocked and saddened by this news. Managing Daleview a while back would have been a disaster without Francis. He was an unbelievable influence on me during that time and I took away a lot from what he showed me. He had an excellent knowledge of swimming as well whether it was with his swim lesson program or just giving advice to a coach. I'll always have great memories of him.
