I hope it helps to know your loss is shared by those who care about you, and that your father will remain with you in spirit. Look for signs!

Dear Bowen Family,
I know this is a tough time for you all right now, and my thoughts and prayers go out to you. But knowing Gil, and his wonderful, positive, upbeat attitude, he would want you to celebrate his exceptional life, and not dwell in sadness. I know I will always remember his enjoyment of being around friends and family, and the good times we all shared. He will be missed, but remembered in our hearts forever.

My friendship with Gil and Flo Ann came about through our shared interest in milk glass. Gil's collection of glass Hen covered dishes was truly of museum quality, and indeed he generously donate it to the WV Museum of American Glass where it is on permanent view. He also prized his fine collection of rare and beautiful English Vitro-Porcelain glass of the Victorian period. Gil was an active member of the National Milk Glass Collectors Society and his participation in our annual conventions was always looked forward to by his many friends. I know that other members of the society join me in expressing our sorrow in his passing and our condolences to his family.

In Aug. 1937 I was a Cub Scout when I first met Gilbert at a Boy Scout camp in Syria,Va. Gil was an Eagle Scout ,highly regarded by the other Scouts, and a great example to me of a boy who honored and practiced both the Scout Oath and Scout Law. I also remember Gilbert as a very caring and compassionate young man during a sad time when his childhood friend,Bob Preston, was dying of throat cancer.
Both Mary and I extend our deepest sympathy to the Bowen family for their loss. Respectfully,George Black, Burlington,N.C.

Dear Terry and Family,
Charlotte and I are sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We had the pleasure of meeting your Mother and Dad when Steve and you had us on board your sailboat for a day cruise. It was one of several times you generously shared your lives with us -- experiences which we will treasure always. May God's presence in your lives and the support of your family and friends help you through this time -- I know you have many, many good memories which you can reflect on and find peace.

Gil was such a special man. I think of him every time I visit the Museum of American Glass and see the remarkable collection of covered hen dishes that he donated -- and often tell other visitors about him and his enthusiasm. I will always remember our first visit to your house and the joyful welcome we received -- and the warm times we had when we were able to attend your "Bunny Bashes." Gil will always be very special to us and we will keep forever keep his memory alive as long as their are fellow glass lovers. Tom and Bob

Dear Flo Ann, Terry, Vicky, Sandy and all the Bowen Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Gil's passing. We only knew him for a short time, but knew him as a tremendous person who loved you all very much. We'll never forget him dancing with his lovely wife at Kate & Kurt's wedding in '07. What a dapper gentleman! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time.
