I only found out of Mr. Koebke's passing today and was very sorry to hear of this. I had been working offsite the last couple of months and wasn't keeping up-to-date with the latest happenings. A coworker informed me, and mentioned that she and her colleagues were devastated with the news when they ran into his wife recently.
I only knew Mr. Koebke informally where I worked, where he and his wife were a regular presence. Mr. Koebke was always the gentlemen and charismatic when giving pleasantries or just talking everyday stuff. He was always happy to tell me some of his biographical details, since one time I inquired about his elegant accent and where he was from.
For a time, I didn't know his name, and gave him the nickname of "Cesar" (due to his resemblance to Cesar Romero). He laughed at that, taking it as a compliment. Even after he told me his name, I would usually forget the next time we crossed paths. He said the best way to remember his name was to think of the ketchup. And that I did. I called him Heinz from that point on, even though I thought Cesar was more fitting. The last time I saw him was in June, and he was his usual charming self and beside his wife. Even though I didn't know them personally, just those few minutes of seeing them together you knew that they made a great couple.
Rest well, my friend.

Although I understand my wife Ann entered a message today, I wanted to personally express my sorry in Heinz' passing and to convey to his family the respect he was held at Manor. As you already know, he was a gentleman, gracious and dignified. He remembered everyone's name and made them feel special, while all the time he was the special one. He will be missed at Manor. With sympathy and respect,
Jay Gutierrez

I consider myself fortunate to have known Heinz and and looked forward to seeing him on my annual visit to Manner CC. There are some people, who after meeting them, leave you with a good feeling about life. Heinz was one of these rare people. I can only imagine the loss felt by his widow and family. Heinz touched a lot of lives in a very profound and personal way.

Heinz Koebke was a gentleman in the truest sense of the term with wit, charm and softness in manner and speech that was disarming. Make no mistake about it, his knowledge of the food and beverage business was unsurpassed and greatly added to the success of such venerable Washington institutions as The Gas Light Club, The Touchdown Club of Washington DC and Manner Country Club. When it came to performing his role as Maitre d', I do not know how anyone could do it any better. He was Mr. Maitre d' of the Washington area (cont.)

Heinz always greeted us with such dignity and graciousness when we saw him at Manor Country Club. I was always teasing him about hidding the "mints" after dinner and he would always give them to me. We will really miss him. Such a hugh loss. God Bless You and Your Family.

He was a great influence in my life, always in my corner encouraging me on. He was a great testimony to me of someone very organized, disciplined, steadfast to his philosophy on life & dedicated to my grandmother (who was his youthful bride & sweetheart of 49 years). He was & will always be loved by his family who lived by his bedside until his passing (a tribute to how admired & respected he was). I am a better person today because of the influence of Heinze Koebke.
They say the avg. person will influence 5000 people in their life time. What kind of influence are you & what kind of legacy will you leave behind?
