HELEN BERNICE GRIFFITH (Age 89)
On Wednesday, November 6, 2013, of Columbia, MD. Born in Mt. Ranier, MD on August 25, 1924. Beloved daughter of the late Harold and "Danna" Hocking; loving mother of Daniel Griffith, Maureen Marsden, Catherine Edwards and Anne Ferguson; grandmother of 13; great-grandmother of five; sister of Marita Marshall, Theresa O'Leary, Bill Hocking and the late Fr. Harold Hocking. Bernice retired from the U.S. Soldiers Home and was an active, life-long member of the Roman Catholic Church. She served her country during WWII as a Navy Wave, providing medical services to our men in uniform. Her warmth, selflessness and sense of gratitude were felt by all she met. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, 4900 Strathmore Avenue, Garrett Park, MD, on Monday, November 11 at 11:30 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Bernice. What a kind person she was. Always having time for me and my family. My late wife, Eileen, thought a lot of her and her kindness. She had a good memory and we talk a lot at Jack,s together s. She will be remember both in our hearts and minds forever and she will be certainly missed. Dear Griffith Family - After 48 years of friendship it is hard to say goodbye to your mom. She was an integral part of my life, and the best friend my mom ever had. Picking up the phone and hearing your mom say "Hi there Sheila Marie" (as she always did!) would bring an immediate smile to my face.
