Dear Mary Ann, It was with sadness that I read of the death of Jay. I knew him when we were both faculty members at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, during the 1950' and 1960's. What a privilege it was to know him and have conversations with him. I remember what we talked about, where we were, things Jay said. He spoke from mind and heart. And I remember you and your family. My wife Mary (who died October 22, 2010) and I were asked to be sponsors for Therese at her Confirmation and were guests at your home. It is a legendary home. I live now in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, in retirement, but often attend events at King's College, including an inspiring program just last Friday on the Anthracite Heritage of this region. Jay belongs to the best of the King's College traditions, the intellectual and the spiritual. He taught and guided us all. May Our Lord comfort you now, in the company of your wonderful children. With love and prayers, Dick Loomis

Dear Mary Ann, I have thought of you and Dr Young lovingly over the years, and you've been on my mind lately in a special way. So, today I googled Jay A. Young - I guess time does not separate us from those to whom we've been close; we can still feel important things happening. What a wonderful effect he had on my life - please know that you and the family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I only met Mr. Young twice during the family's grand Thanksgiving gatherings up in the hills of Mike Young's home. Each time I met him he always had something of wisdom to say. He was a giver and a great man!

I graduated WSCCHS in 1966 with Mr. Young's son, P. Michael. I'm so sorry to read of your dad's passing, Mike. I know how hard it is to lose a parent.. My sympathies go out to you and your entire family. I tried to contact you a while ago from the e-mail address on your business card that you gave me at our reunion but couldn't get through. Please write to me at my e-mail ([email protected]). I truly would like to keep in touch. Fran (Chukinas) Berdy

Jay was both a valued mentor and a friend. He will be sorely missed, as he touched literally thousands of lives.
