Dear Judy,
Suffice to say I often reflect on the memories from when Jon and I first became friends as far back as 1967. As a young firefighter I was extremely fortunate to have Jon as a mentor and friend. There are many of us, now gray headed who enjoyed the friendship we shared with you and Jon over the many episodes in our lives. Those same gray headed friends share your loss deeply. Debbie and I will keep you and Clay and Laurel in our prayers hoping to ease your sorrow and sense of loss.

I knew Jon thru the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department. For around 15 years Jon & I would interact on FD matters, from the time he was at Silver Spring all the way though his time as the Fire Chief for Montgomery County. While it is true that he and I did not always agree, I always knew that any disagreements were based on our mutual desire for the best for the fire service. Jon was a passionate, dedicated and knowledgeable leader of the fire and rescue service. The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, career and volunteer, is better because he was part of it. He will be missed. My wife Linda and I send our sincerest condolences to the entire Grover family and his many friends and associates.

Jon and I had many wonderful memories at the Training Academy, especially the time the two of us tried to explain to Asst Chief W. Wise why we cut up the wrong car during a Recruit Class the two of us were teaching. Jon and I hid from Wally for two days. Jon and I taught many Firefighters in our day. He will be sorely missed. Our prayers go out to the entire Grover Family for their loss.
