I remember the first time Aunt Marion came to visit my parents in Rochester N.Y. It was a special visit. Mother said Marion was bringing a friend. It was a visit with Roland Florin Phd.
I could tell they were very much in love. The way they looked at each other and how Roland Florin helped Aunt Marion with her chair to be seated at the dinner table. ... and it was always that way. Roland also went around the table to help our mother with her chair then my sister and mine also. Roland Florin was always a gentleman.
I remember spending some time at their home in Takoma Park Md. I said I'd iron all of Suzannes dresses. Aunt Marion was delighted...... I had no idea Suzannes dresses all had lovely little collars and puffy sleeves and big bows at the back. I enjoy always both cousin Eric and Suzanne. I have so many fond memories of my visits to there home and their visits to our home in Rochester N.Y. I am rich with memories of them both. My love to Cousin Eric and
Cousin Suzanne.

I mourn the death of Marion Florin. I never knew her name until now. But I felt as if I knew her. She and her husband added something very special to Takoma Park. They made this feel like even more of a community. My husband and I watched them walking hand and hand. Some days one or both of us would chat with them – about nothing and about everything. Other days, one or both of us would just watch them from afar. We would watch and, yes, like others, hope that we too would continue to walk hand in hand as we aged. But it was not just the fact that they were walking hand in hand. It was the way they walked together; there was a serenity and fulfillment that enveloped them. We in Takoma Park have our azaleas and our Sunday market and – for those special years – we also had the Florins, walking with their magic.
I want to thank the Florins for what they gave me over the years; I wish I had said this to Marion before her death.
And I hope we in Takoma Park will keep alive the memory of them walking hand in hand. I can see them now, stopping to savor who-knows-what as they passed the Thomas-Siegler Gardens…

I would often point them out to my husband as they were walking along Carroll, indeed hand in hand, saying that I hoped that would be us one day.

It was always inspiring to see Mr. and Mrs. Florin walking down the street hand-in-hand. She sent a wonderful message and gift to every living creature she encountered.

I have always admired the pure adoration and respect that Marion and Roland held for each other and for their grown children. Marion is the only person I've ever met who could get a squirrel to eat out of her hand. Who wouldn't trust such a gentle soul! She and Roland loved nature and nature knew that.

Twenty-three years ago my husband and I became members of Takoma Park Presbyterian Church and the couple that stood out to me were the Florins. They walked hand and hand to church and held hands while in church. About four years ago I became a Deacon and for three years I got to know the Florin family. I always wished I would have known Marion in her earlier years. Her son and daughter shared Marion's background when I had the opportunity to speak with them. May Marion rest in peace and know that she had a positive impact on many people.
