To The Harper Family,
I just learned of Dr. Harper's passing and am so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to work for him for many years in Greenbelt. He was always so kind and easy to work with. It was so nice to come to the office and see his bright smile and I thank God for the opportunity to have learned so much from him. May God bless your family.

Dot, I am sorry I found out after the fact about your loss of Glen (and ours, too).
He was a great and cheerful friend during the ICC wars of the 1990's.
My fondest memory of him was at one of those innumerable and interminable ICC meetings and workshops in the 1990's, when an angry woman from one of the anti-ICC groups came up to Glen and demanded that he stop practicing engineering (he'd advocated for low-impact construction methods) and that he should strictly limit his work to the practice of engineering. To which Glen (always polite, friendly and cheerful) replied that his undergraduate degree from West Point was in fact in engineering.
The angry woman, no doubt made even angrier by Glen's friendly politeness, stormed away without uttering another word.

“Lead and I may not follow, follow and I may not lead, but walk with me and be my friend.”
Glen said,”That's the way I felt then and do to this day. I thank you for the term leadership. I hope it came across to you and others back then that I tried to be a SERVANT LEADER though I didn't know what that meant until just a few years ago. A servant leader walks with you, instead of in front, or behind, and gets the same dirt on his shoes. That's the way I felt then and do to this day.
We will miss the “Leader of the Band.” He was our friend and class mate forever.
I wish you and your family comfort and peace, the feeling that comes from knowing how much others care for you and Glen.

Dear Dot, Michael and family,
We will always remember his loving spirit and his generosity and enthusiasm and all he did for Magruder and its' community. He touched so many hearts, and it is such a blessing that we got to know him so well. May God continue to be in your lives and bless your family especially at this time.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you

Glen was my neurologist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in the early 1990's. As a severe penerating traumatic brain injury (S/P TBI) survivor from Viet Nam, I had been treated over the years by scores of neurologists. Glen approached me as a person and not as a patient or as an injury. His outstanding treatment enabled me to reach new hights in my daily functioning. Glen was not only a physician, but also a healer! I now compare all physicians to Glen's professionalism and caring. I again got to know Glen as a friend while working with the TBI patients from Iraq & Afghanistan. Our loss is profound! JON DODSON

Dot and the Harper Family, please be comforted to know how many people Glen touched in his life. I got to know Glen, I think very well, over the past five years with the West Point Alumni Glee Club. What a great guy! He always had a nice word to say and was always the first to offer his help. Glen and I got to chat quite a bit as we unwound sound cables, connected speakers, moved risers and a myriad of other tasks. He and I always had a good laugh when we goofed up a connection. I miss him! I know his voice will always be heard in our club. Rest in peace my friend!
Nancy and I hope you can find celebration in a life well lived in caring for and about others!

Dorothy and Family,
I want to express my sincere condolence to you for the loss of your dear husband and father. I only knew Glen for a short while as a new member of the Glee Club. He was truly loved and respected. I had the honor of singing next to him on March 9th in Gainesville.
I can testify to you that losing a beloved family member is a shock and a challenge as I lost my high school sweetheart and companion of over 41 years this past November. I am still struggling to cope, but each day seems to get a little easier. I am surrounded by my sons and grandchildren and wonderful church friends and neighbors and that helps a great deal. But there are still times of deep sadness and loneliness. One of the things that seemed to help our family was digging out every picture we could find of Pam and Pam and me and Pam with our sons and friends. It helped me recall that, over our entire time together, we truly had a wonderful life. Even though time and age does terrible things to the body, these pictures brought back the fond memories of when we met and why I was so head-over-heels in love with her. As we sat on the floor going through these pictures, we all sobbed like babies because we loved Pam so much and missed her so much. But in the end, it was a good reminder of how precious life is and how we need to appreciate every day together.

Glen - "Rest in peace," how much this says, be free of pain no more to weep. Find joy that never ends, possess new life that here you could not keep. "Rest in peace," and though we grieve, reaching for your hand in vain, our faith is such that we believe that all of us shall meet again. ... Your gentle touch remains upon the hearts of those who loved you best. (Grace E. Easley)
