PATRICK J. SHANKO (Age 61)
On Friday, December 16, 2011, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved son of the late Adam and Clare Shanko; brother of Marilou Greenwade, Karen Bennett, the late Roger, Michael, and Joseph Shanko; uncle of Christopher, Matthew and Michael Bennett and Jennifer Hottle. Also survived by sister-in-law, Maureen Shanko and other loving family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine Laboure, Veirs Mill & Claridge Roads, Wheaton, MD, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. I love you so much...you were first my brother, then like a father, then my friend, then more of a father to my children than their own....but most of all you have ALWAYS been my HERO!!!
I loved you more than you could ever know...You touched so many lives and NEVER once heard you complain about ANYTHING!!!

Pat Shanko was a wonderful man. He was always willing to help me with anything. He was a hard worker and too generous. He was a great example to the "new guys" coming up the ranks at S&D. He was so easy going and always had a minute to talk if you needed to. He was that kind man that you don't often meet now days. I hope he is having a blast in heaven. I know that he is looking down on all those he loved and keeping them in his embrace. I will miss you Pat Shanko.

For Pat, a straightforward and honest man who through his weathered exterior portrayed a hard working and grizzled individual. Once inside, there was a warm, gentle and loving man who truly cared for others. This was evident by the sacrifices he made over his life.
God love you and see you soon in the big game in the sky.

Uncle Pat.... You will be missed by many, but never forgotten. He was the most respectful and respected man in my eyes.He had a heart of gold and taught me a lot. He was a great Uncle/ father to us. I had the upmost respect for him and am very grateful for everything he has done for me and everybody else. He was admired by many and an inspiration to me; a prime example of a real man. Uncle Pat, I LOVE YOU, and thanks for the talk we had awhile back. You opened my eyes to a lot of things and gave me hope, strength, and courage that anything can be done. Thanks for not giving up on me, and beleiving in me.
