Pat~
Although we hadn't seen one another for many years, when I saw you this past September, it was like we never skipped a beat. You were the same loving, warm, kind, caring, funny Pat I had always known and loved.
I can't help but think of what a blessing you were to your many students over the years, as you were such a wonderful and devoted teacher. I can only imagine the number of doors you've opened for them.
You'll always remain in my thoughts and prayers and I take comfort in knowing you're now side by side with Uncle Billy.
God bless you, always.
With love,
Elizabeth (Betty) Lee

My Brother, My Friend
Pat, it’s only been a couple of days since you've been gone, and things just haven't been the same,
This just does not seem real to me,
and who is there to blame?
Do not question God, that’s what they say,
But please let me know why you had to take my brother away?
I miss you so much, Pat. I have so much to say.
But I hope I said it all to you on Sunday, before you were on your way.
You are in a much better place now,
All your problems have gone away,
But remember, Pat, we will be together on the other side one day!
I love you,
Kathy

Pat, I know that we drifted over the years. But you and your family never drifted from my heart and from my mind. You were my bodyguard. I love you.

Pat you will be missed by family and friends. Although through the years we all take different paths it is our family bond that keeps us strong. Let us not loose it in this life or the one thereafter. Love you.

A TRIBUTE TO PAT
Pat was a true teacher. He was great at it and strong at it. Having taught myself, and knowing its “heavy lifting, Pat stood out to me. In recent conversations, it was the combination of his knowledge and spirit in this calling – after even 40 years – that was fresh, vibrant, and so totally devoted.
Something from your youth has to be at play in your later profession to have Pat's qualities. His sense of school spirit, perhaps. But Pat would have that even for teammates playing football out in the street.
Reflecting now, Pat's life and success was teaching us that you cannot be a hero apart from your school, your teammates which for him became his students. To be a true hero, you have to recognize something greater than yourself and let that be your reward.
One time, at a family picnic, Pat shared how one of his old middle school students still kept in touch and was now going on for her PhD in history. It was a teachable moment for me, just switching over in mid-career to teaching. “ So Martin, there is THAT.
Years later – and quite recently – an old teaching friend, who also taught history – Pete Duynstee – passed away. In the email tributes, there was the story of a young girl in Pete's senior history class who did not think much of herself and had no aspiration for college. Well, the story goes on. In Pete's class, he didn't care about whether he agreed with you or not: “Question Authority was his mantra, “make YOUR case. In this environment, the young girl saw, for the first time in her life, “how smart she truly was . When she emailed her eulogy for Pete Duynstee, she had already finished a Masters degree at Pepperdine, out in California. She had gone far. “Nothing is more important than that I said to myself. The conversation at the picnic with Pat instantly shot into my head.
Pat was a “one-on-one guy. He could engage you for hours in conversation. Because he not only listened to you. In these conversations, there was a quality to Pat that he gave you his full attention. We all crave attention! And Pat was only too happy to give you his. That chuckle of his could lift you out of your hurts. You walked away a different person after talking with Pat. And you knew “ I can share anything with him.
The thought occurred to me just yesterday that “ This Life on earth has no one side but so big as to embrace all our own unique perspectives. It is still incomplete and blank until each of us puts our own stamp on it.Maybe only a pinhole in size. If we have lived a good life, that small stamp will “pass down and inspire others to treasure your perspective. Pat's life has touched me: “Anyone can succeed; Not everyone can serve He had a great life!
