Hey, Uncle Rich. I wanted to let you know that Alabama kicked butt in their first game on Saturday (you probably already knew that)! I think about you all of the time. The simple things remind me of you. I keep thinking about when we were driving back from New York this past July and we stopped at the P.A./N.Y. rest stop. There was a guy from the janitorial staff passing by and you thanked him for keeping the rest stop looking nice and for all of the hard work he does. That just goes to show you what an amazing guy you truly were.

I'll never quite understand why you had to leave us and I got to live. However, death is death, and no one understands it.

Thinking of you everyday
I love you

My Dear Brother,
I am one if the last entire in this book for a reason

In October, Some of your family will be participating in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk. Light The Night is the nation's night to pay tribute to people who have fallen to cancer like you my Brother.

After setting at your funeral and hearing how many peoples life's you saved and what a great friend and sponsor you were this is the least I can do to carry on your name, I will try and do this every year in your honor, as long as I am able.

Everyday I see or hear something that brings you in my heart, talking to Mom, Dad or Todd, passing a mail truck, hearing the score of the Redskin or Nat's games, and of course a butterfly that may fly by me.

I promise till the day I die and see you again in heaven, I will take care of our family, and make sure your resting place is taken care.

I love you with all my heart. Your one and only Sister Laura

Hi Son,
Just sitting at the cottage today thinking of you, of course, your Mom's and my hearts are broken. They will be until we meet again in Heaven. When you came to visit us in Fl. we made many plans for this summer. We spoke about how you & Coby were going to spend the summer with us at our beloved cottage. All the things we had planned to do will be put on hold until we meet again. I know there are beautiful lakes there where we can fish. Son, I want you to know how proud your Mom & I are for all the wonderful things your many friends spoke about you . Rich, there were more than 250 people at your funeral & gravesite and how proud Mom & I , Laura & Todd were. We miss you terribly. You know how much faith & trust we all have in our Heavenly Father, so we'll all be together again. Love you son, Dad

We lost a special person on August 10th. Rich was such a caring person who loved God and his family so much. When I heard the stories at his memorial from so many people and saw how many people were there, it was simply amazing! He faced his illness with such courage, yet never stopped giving to others. I am so very proud that he was my nephew!
What an example he set for how we all should live our lives. His job here on earth is done and the angels have taken him home on the wings of that yellow butterfly.
Rest in peace Richard. I love you.

Pops,
I miss you soooo much and on the way to ocean city we saw so many butterflies and every time I saw one it would remind me of you. Every time I see a picture of talk about you I get upset but then I think about how you are in a better place and you are no longer in pain. You are the greatest grandfather anyone could have and i'm happy you were mine. That night that you passed I couldn't fall asleep because every time I closed my eyes I saw you. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!! and i always will!!

Hey Dicky/Rich
I tried to tell you a joke but the editors wouldn't post it. They don't know that you were the comedian in our family, always a joke or prank we could count on you. The void this big Mahon family is feeling is overwhelming and I am not sure we will ever over come this. I need to thank you again for being such a inspiration for me and most of all my kids, you were there for Mandy when she really needed you and for that I will always be thankful. So many lives you touched and without ever asking for anything in return you just don't find people like you anymore and i know that is why we are all missing you so much! BTW thanks again for the packer helmet when Brooke is old enough to understand I will tell her about her 3rd cousin that gave it to her, now that will be a story to tell. When I got home last week and went to the "weekend exCUSE" my butterfly bush was in full bloom I had been waiting all summer for it...I know you had something to do with that, thank you! On my way to the Ramie/Welser cottage soon "weekend exCUSE" TGIF! I will hug Auntie and Uncle for you. ttyl xoxo Rox #17 cousin (i think) lol.

Uncle Rich,
I will always remember spending Christmas's together when I was a kid. My mom and dad and I would go to aunt Mary and uncle dick's house where you, Karen, Steven, Kelly, Laura, mike, and Samantha would be waiting and you were even more excited then the kids because you loved to watch the smiles and joy on each of the kids faces as they opened their presents. I always knew you were a great person but I couldn't believe how many lives you touch and how many people you have helped until the day of your funeral. Seeing all those people stand up because of you was a truly amazing thing to see. You will always be remembered for the great person you are.
Miss you always, Christie

My heart is still heavy with the loss of Richard. I am so glad I got to see him at the anniversary party and have that hug and special talk with him that day. Little did I know he would be gone so soon after that. He was welcomed into heaven with open arms by our Dear Lord and our families who helped him with his courageous journey. I will think of him often and miss his kindness

Rich, I Love You and I will miss you till we see each other again. You fought a good fight with dignity. I have learned so much about your life. You have embraced alot of people in the short time here on earth. Thank you for being there for my husband. He has become a man after God's own heart and has such a caring heart himself. Because of you so many people have been able to change there lives. God always knows what he is doing and he certainly knew what he was doing when it came to you. Psalms 62:1-2 in "The Message" is the foundation for the rest of my life.

August 22, 2012

Rich, You know it's times like this that you reflect on peoples lives and remember when they entered yours. You entered my life when I married your cousin Karen Sue. You helped me in a period of my life when I was truly lost. You helped me realize that I wasn't alone in my self distructive battle. In my heart I will always be grateful to you for that. You always had a listening ear and sound advice. When it came time for you to leave us, I was blessed to be there for you. I will always remember that. You will always be in my heart. Thank you for being who you were. You touched so many lives.

Hey cousin, I never realized how many lives a single person can touch in their lifetime, and as we all saw at your memorial. U touched a great many, especially in our family. I'm sure many are regretting as I am time lost, never to be regained. I can only hope and pray that Our family remains as close/tight in the future. We were all raised with the same beliefs and those beliefs were passed on to our children as well. God comes 1st, then family. What would we do without them. This will always hold true. Love Patsy

Richard, Uncle Rich, Best Friend and Cousin, Our lives have been Richer because you have always been such a wonderfull part of them. Pauls cousin and best friend. You two have supoported each other thru thick and think and much laughter. Paul loves you so much Rich and will miss you dearly. You have been a wonderful loving Uncle to Jordan. He has such fun and fond memories of you introducing him to Hooters afterall they have the best wings, but also your unconditional love and laughter. You have also always watched Jordan thru is sports and athetic adventures and encouraged him. He loves you and will miss you so much. As for me you were our best Man both Pauls and mine. You encouraged me when I went thru my cancer battle. I feel like you have loved me like a sister. I don't understand why some of us win the cancer battle and some don't but i agree with you Parent GOD has called you home as he must have a greater need for you. I have so many fond memories of you and how you brought me to tears with laughter, what great medicine. My Picture is, you are in heaven with your Mickey Mouse gloves acting as a Mim and directing traffic for GOD. I laugh out loud when i picture the time you did that in Disney world. I am trying to express the thoughts of our family. Please be assured we will keep track of and watch over your parents when they are at the Full Circle. We will miss you and look forward to the day we can all be together again. Love always, Paul, Bonnie and Jordan

August 21, 2012

Dear Son, You are gone to Heaven now. God had a plan for you and you finished it. He took you to Heaven so you wouldn't be in any more pain. We were always the proudest parents because of the way you lived your life, but the day of your funeralwhen over 250 people showed up and overflowed the church. Many people spoke of the wonderful things you had done for them and how you "had saved their lives" with your support and friendship, that was my proudest moment. We love you dear son and will see you in Heaven when God calls us. Love, Mom & Dad.

Our Uncle From Madison
I came into this life
You held me in your arms
You kept me safe
So no one could harm

You taught me values
Lessons in life I would learn
You taught me to respect
I gave you love in return

The Wizard of Oz ornaments
Seeing you at my softball games
Those will be the memories
That will forever remain

You have been in my life
Through thick and thin
And now my journey
Without you will begin

I will embrace you in my arms
And hold on tight
I will stand by your side
And you will never leave my sight

I miss you so much
The pain does not ease
I pray you are happy
And finally at peace

We love you, Uncle Rich

August 21, 2012

My Dear Brother, Richard

As I was walking deep in sorrow thinking about the times we shared
A butterfly danced round me, a white cloud in the evening air
And I knew that your soul was finally home and free
But it felt like a blessing, a message from you to me
Now you can fly, now you can soar
So high above this world where troubles are no more
The time has come to say goodbye
And let your soul go to heaven on the wings of a butterfly
Just a few days after they called us to a church to pray
Loved ones gathered round you to bless and send you on your way
And as I got up to speak, it suddenly caught my eye
White wings against the window, a beautiful butterfly...
Now you can fly, now you can soar
So high above this world where troubles are no more
This love of ours will never die
So let your soul go to heaven on the wings of a butterfly
One day we'll meet again in heaven and we'll fly like that butterfly
We love you Brother.

I watched you fight this terrible disease from day 1 for almost 3 years. There's not a stronger man a know to have gone through what you did and yet you also kept your household running well. You constantly thought of my needs and our children and Gchildren needs first as you did when well. You loved us with all of your heart which is why we all respected and loved you. I see or hear something and start to come to tell you and then i have to stop. You`re not here in body but I look at one of your pictures and share what I was thinking. I`m so glad you no longer have to suffer but i miss you soooo much. Your friends and family are being very supportive and check on me frequently. I love you TRULY!!

First impressions don't always stay in sync with lasting impressions. In Rich's case, they do. My first impression was of a good guy. Fun loving, thoughtful, and caring. His serious side, full of concern for others, was matched with a quit witted sense of humor, sure to make you smile, and laugh. His lasting impression is the same. His influence is permanently instilled in the hearts and minds of those he loved, and those who loved him. This influence will continue to help guide them, forever. We are better people for knowing him, and proud to call him our friend.

With love and respect,
David & Maria.
