I'm very sad to hear of Bob's passing. I worked with him at the Zoo and found him to be one of the most enjoyable people to work with during my time there. He was very widely respected by the National Zoo community for both his intelligence and his pleasant disposition.

My thoughts and prayers to the Hoage family. Bob was my first "real" boss as an intern at the Zoo. I will forever be indebted to him as he set me on the path of a public relations career in the government. He taught me so much on how to handle public relations crises--from panda pregnancies to stolen snakes. He was treasured and will be missed.

Chris, Theresa, Neal & Kevin: so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I liked and admired Bob so much and only regret we saw so little of each other in our adult years. I was overjoyed to see and speak to him at his Uncle Bud's birthday party in January. God bless. Cousin Mimi

Dr. Hoage had such a passion for the classes he taught. He helped me see the big picture of biology and encouraged his students to go out and change the world. I have such good memories from the two classes I had with him. He will be deeply missed by all of his students.

Bob, aka "Coopid" was my lifelong friend. I will miss him and all our wonderful talks. We loved to talk about dinosaurs. I have so many memories. We have been friends since 1949 growing up in Chevy Chase on Hunt Avenue. Attached is a picture of Me, My Brother Greg "Muffin" and "Little Bob" ca. 1949. My deepest sympathy to his children and grandchildren. I will miss you. Reggie

Bob was in the Research Dept with Dr. Eisenberg when I first came to work for NZP in 1975. What a warm wonderful, giving person he was. I remember when he turned 55 and called it double nickels. I have so many laughing and sad memories of he and Patty. Life is so short.

Dr. Hoage was one of the greatest and most intelligent professors I have ever known. I am grateful that he was able to pass down his knowledge to me, a Biology student at NDMU, who has been inspired by Dr. Hoage's teaching and passion for Ecology. Please know that all of you are in my prayers. He truly will be missed.

I will always treasure my memories of Bob. He represented everything a Smithsonian employee should be - devoted to sharing knowledge of our wonderful animal treasures with the world. He was also one of the nicest, most thoughtful people I've ever known. I was lucky to know him, but he's gone too soon. My deepest sympathies to his children.
