Dear Mrs. Nix and Family,
Having just received word that Roscoe Nix passed away in January, may I belatedly offer my sincere condolences. He and I spent many years arguing with one another as political opponents on Montgomery County's public television show, "21 This Week," but off the air, we were always friends. Some of my fondest memories over the years are of spending time with Roscoe, such as the time we had lunch together and he told me the history behind his becoming the Superintendent of the county school system, and passed along valuable advice for my own life. Whenever I drive on Route 495 near the Roscoe Nix Elementary School, I feel a sense of pride and honor that we had once been friends. May he rest in peace, and God bless you all.

Mrs. Nix and the entire Nix Family:
I remember Roscoe Nix as among the most virtuous and principled public servants I have ever known. As Superintendent of the Montgomery County Public Schools 1975-79, it was my honor to work very closely with him on our goals of enhancing equality of educational opportunity for all students, reducing racial and linguistic isolation, and promoting justice through our Black Action Steps. In our latter lives, it was my great pleasure to visit him whenever I returned to the area. He truly served a greater purpose than his own. I will miss him greatly.

Dear Mrs. Nix and the entire Nix Family:
We, Pastor Sutton, the officers and members of Church of Redeemer, Presbyterian (USA) extend our thoughts and prayers to you. Elder Nix was a Redeemer Charter member and, with that, came the fight for justice and freedom for all people. We loved him at Redeemer. He loved us and we are so much better for having him in our lives.
We hope that these expressions of our condolence will bring you comfort during this hour of trial.
God bless,

Emma,
Knowing Roscoe has meant many things to me. It has meant knowing someone that I could really rely on, confide in, and trust.
It has meant knowing someone who was not afraid to speak his mind, to fight for justice for all, to stand tall, to speak out forcefully for what is just, and fair, and right...to win and sometimes to lose. But in losing, to learn how to best win the next fight for what is right and just.
Mostly, though, knowing Roscoe has meant that I always had something to be really happy about, and that was that I had him as a true friend.
Knowing Roscoe for 43 years has made me wonder time and again what the whole wide world would look like and be like if there were more people in it just like him.
Shirl and I extend to you, Susan, Veretta and the rest of the family our deepest, heartfelt sympathy. We pray God's blessing to all of you in these hours of deepest sorrow, and hope that you gain a measure of comfort knowing that we also share your grief and sorrow.
