I have been a friend of Rose's granddaughters, Erin and Molly, for many years. Rose was always very sweet to me and her kind nature can be seen in the wonderful family she has raised. All my love to the Hornyak family as they remember Rose.

My first memory of "Miss Murphy" was at Newport Junior High where she taught me to appreciate music. Next Mrs. Hornyak began teaching my children at St. Judes. We will always remember her wonderful sense of humor. She had to have that to put up with my dad, Jack, being in the choir. She has always been a part of my family and this parish's sad and happy events. Our hearts go out to the Hornyak family. We will miss her.

Rose dedicated more hours to brighten the musical landscape of St. Jude's than anyone before or since. No disrespect to others in the music ministry but she was one of a kind. She was our gold medal gal hands down.
When I think of Rose, refrains of Handel's Messiah and Easter and Christmas chorales linger in memory along with the sweet notes she coaxed from her students. With her encouragement one of my sons successfully auditioned for the Tosca children's chorus thus introducing the wonderful world of opera to my husband and children.
Lest we forget, Rose also had a sense of humor and a sense of timing. She is the only person ever to throw a thick choir hymnal in frustration at the bad boys of adult choir (my husband and her husband) and get away with it. This action alone endeared her to my family forever.
We rejoice, we celebrate, and we fondly remember our beautiful Rose.

Mrs. Hornyak was my teacher and choir leader for many years. I have many fond memories of her patient ways. She had such tolerance! I will always remember days singing "do re mi" on the red vinyl chairs in her classroom! She made a lifelong impression on me. May He bless her family with comfort during this difficult time.

I know she is with the Choir of Angels.
God Bless you all in this time.
