Very, very late but I have to say it.
Dr. Long was my advisor and mentor in my graduate counseling program at CU. I absolutely adored him. He was incredibly supportive and encouraging which I needed as I was a "returning" student aged 30 who worked full time and who was juggling both a mother and husband with mental health issues. I still have my papers with his enthusiastic compliments. I loved his classes and looked forward to them and our meetings as oases of joy in my hectic life. Just a wonderful, good, kind man. I´m so sorry I learned of his passing much too late to pay my respects when it was published in the CUA alumni mag.

Dr. Long touched many lives and will be greatly missed. I had the honor and privilege of knowing him in recent years while pursuing my doctoral studies at Catholic University of America. He always brought his sweet little Westie to his office on campus (with the doggie gate), and we had great times talking whenever we got the chance. He sure loved that dog! Continued prayers for Dr. Long and his family. †

I was also shocked of Tom's passing away. He was a true friend and very committed associate member of the Brothers of Charity in DC. Yesterday while visiting our library here in Kigoma, Tanzania, I could not help but think of Tom's generosity, who inspired CUA students to collect books and ship a container to our Newman Institute of Social Work in Kigoma, Tanzania.
We will miss you and May God welcome you in Eternal life..

Very sad to hear of my uncle Tom leaving this earth. He lived a life of legacy and passed it down to his children. My condolences and prayers for Seth and Sara and all his loved ones, including his five brothers. May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, fill the hearts that are hurting. Let us find strength through this sadness. Rest in Peace Uncle Tom

I was very shocked to hear about Tom's passing. I was in his class at St. M in the fifties. Was assuming I would see him again at our reunion next summer. Our class has been notified by Bill McGuire,so the prayers are bombarding heaven for him. Be assured of our support and condolences.

The sudden decease of Professor Tom Long has surprised all of us. He was well know to the Brothers in Washington as a person interested in our spirituality, to brothers studying at CUA, in his lessons of counseling in Belgium and in his support for the library in Kigoma, Tanzania. He will be remembered as dedicated and spiritual person.

I have many fond memories of Tom Long formed and reinforced over decades. His son Seth and I grew up as friends together since we were boys of around four years old. I remember that Tom's door was always open (literally, Tom left his door unlocked and often ajar which speaks to his kind heart and trusting character) and that he was always happy to receive visitors. I can't name any other parent with whom I would choose to hang out with for a while and just chat with or go to walk the dog together -- I had the pleasure of doing that many times with Dr. Long. I remember him fondly as a genuinely kind, compassionate and thoughful man who was a doting and loving father to his kids. I'll always be reminded of him when I see his favorite breed of dog, a west highland white terrier, or if someone else in future humorously decides (dares?) to serve a side of grapes with almost every meal.
I will remember him fondly and will strive to emulate his good example.

So so sorry about the sudden death of Professor Tom Long. Both my late husband and myself were doctoral students at U.of Illinois when he was teaching there and had respect and adoration for him.Our friendship extended through many years and he was a good friend and mentor. Our children grew up together and he was a great father to his children. Such a loss !!!May he rest in peace. With love, Tehila Selzer-Putney.

The news of Tom's sudden passing was quite unexpected. Memories of CYO camp, softball, newspapers at the "500", canoeing in Canada, trip to Yellowstone rush back into my consciousness. I was looking forward to seeing Tom again at our 50th H.S. reunion. Requiescat in pace! Sit Terra Tibi Levis. Ave Atque Vale. Na se doso pali. Albert & Mary Ann Steiner
