On Saturday, December 22, 2012, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Cynthia F. Bates; father of David, Gregory (Manuela), Anthony (Millie) and Paul (Julie) Bates; grandfather of Ramona, Theo, Naomi, Marilyn, and Nora; great-grandfather of Mia and Anslie; brother of Elizabeth Love. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, (Valet Parking), Saturday, December 29, 2 to 4 p.m., with prayers held at 3:30 p.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The Bates were a second family to me growing up. I loved visiting Hyde Court for Super Bowl parties, and later in life, real parties. Mr. Bates was ALWAYS such a gentleman and a chef in his own right. I'm deeply saddened, but glad he's with Cynthia. Love to my "brothers" David, Gregory, Anthony & Paul and your families.

Grandpa was always full of life and laughter. He always made sure that his grandchildren were happy from disney trips to a stock of froot loops. I will always love you grandpa and you will be missed. Give grandma a big hug and kiss from me please.
