Joe was such a great guy and one of my mentors at ITT. I told his Grandkids at the funeral that he introduced Frisbees to the Chinese as gifts during a trip there in the early 1980s.

Joe was a person you could never forget. I was in a meeting one day with the president of our company and our group president. Suddenly we received a call from Joe that he needed assistance in closing a deal. Joe presented his arguments and although both senior executives were reluctant to yield Joe won the day. This was not unusual.

We send our best wishes and prayers to Ruth and the entire Gancie clan. We also recall so many wonderful memories of a kind and gracious friend, mentor and ITT colleague. Joe was a key part of so many world events, from U.S. Army Signal Corps duty in World War II to the Washington/Moscow Hotline to space launches and conventions, papal travels and the re-opening China to the west. He surely earned that designation, 'a great guy', and we are all the better to have known him.

I first met Joe in 1971 when I joined the ITT Worldcom Legal Dept. I have fond memories of meetings with Joe and his Washington DC office with its many pictures personally signed by several US presidents thanking Joe for his work toward improving worldwide communications.

ITT was our common ground. For over forty years I had a most wonderful relationship with Joe not only at the many meetings and travelling together but also at the many other activities organized by Joe for the company. After our retirement from ITT we kept a very close contact with Joe from whom we continued to receive his caring, always impecably, so friendly and specially when annually we would receive by mail from him the White House Christmas year simbol. We will cherish his memory eternally and his presence will ever be felt when we put up our Christmas trees.

I met Joe over twenty five years ago wehen I started to work with ITT Worldcom. He was always professional and extremely kind to me as we worked together on several projects and opportunities. After ITT and later during my retirement years we stayed in touch and frequently met for lunch. Joe was unique. May he rest in peace.

As a former ITT lawyer, I had many occasions to deal with Joe. It was always a pleasure, and I will remember him with great fondness. He was one of the really good people it was my privilege to know.
