Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Santee Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Daniel J. Santee US Marine Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Hey bud, its about that time. I just retired last month. Man its been 7 years. I bought some land in North Carolina near my folks. I hope I get out to see you after things settle down. Adjusting to civilian life takes a bit to get use to. My wife seems to like it. All the best man see you around.

I had the pleasure of going to boot camp with Santee. He was a great man, and a great friend. We helped each other get through boot camp and became very close. I also had the pleasure of meeting his sister and father. What a wonderful family. Sometimes people wonder how God could let something like this happen to such a great person, I wonder why God let me be so lucky to have known such a great man. My thoughts are with you and your family my friend. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers. This Veterans Day we hang a flag for you my brother……Your friend – Ross

Daniel, I know your Mom and have learned about you from her. I've also read many things about you from your friends. Your mom is an amazing woman who loved and continues to love you dearly. She is loving, caring, kind, and generous to everyone she meets. I am confident that you were the same quality person she is. Your friends and family miss you dearly. I pray for all of you often and wish I had had the opportunity to know you personally. I am confident we will meet in heaven one day where I can salute you personally. God Bless!

Well me and Josh had our son 3 years ago and he is named after you i hope he is half the man you were thank you for giving so much for us.. You will never be forgotten in this house...

Six years ago I lost a very good friend, fellow marine, roommate. The marine corps lost a dedicated hard nosed, but good hearted marine. America lost an outstanding citizen who put love of country above his very own life. A mother and father lost their loving son, as well as a brother and sister lost their brother. It's been six years and I still mourn the loss of such and amazing young man. Unfortunatly, due to financial reasons, i have not been able to make it to California to visit him or his family, which I can't wait to meet someday. I had the honor of not only serving with Dan, but had the pleasure of being his roommate at camp lejeune before we deployed to Iraq. I names my son have Daniel and every year he will know why he was named after him. I hope my son will grow up to be half the man he was. All those nights listening to the beach boys cleaning our room with gas masks on dumping bleach all over are missed greatly. Many memories that I will cherish til we meet again. Santee, I miss ya and love ya brother.

Hey Bud, I might finally be able to come out and see ya. Things are alright with me and my family. I pray for your family. Well, I am finally done in the Marines it looks like. I got hurt while deployed as well. I am alright though. I got all my fingers and toes. The left side of my face is numb and a few other minor things. It worked out for me though. When the wife gets mad, I always tell her it on the right. So when she smacks me I don't feel a thing. Best of luck to ya bud and I miss ya. I ain't ur family I know. Nothing that happened was ur fault. You were the best of us out there, I guess God needed you more than we did. I still don't sleep much around this time of year. I don't talk with anyone in our old Unit much. Not sure why, I have a few on my wife's facebook(I think facebook is the worse program ever made.) I really wish they would have let ya be in my truck.... I understand we were the only -A.... that didn't make me like it any better. I kinda missed Patty's Day. I been stuck in florida for over 3 years now. Its too far for my family to come see me all the time. I am hoping to move back to NC. I have pretty much missed 10 years of my Dad's life. I know you had a Brother and a sister like me. I was the baby of the trio. If I remember right you were too. Hope to make it over to see ya by your Bday next year. Later man, I will see ya when I see ya.

Words cannot express the effect the loss of this Marine under my care has cost me. I met Santee after coming back to the states after a 2 year tour overseas. I bought him his first legal beer and gave him my blood the day he died. We dont forget and we truly bleed for each other. It was a promise I made to him that I kept. The only 2 with A- in our squad. He was my main reason for reenlisting. He was supposed to teach me to surf and I was suppose to help him with scuba. Good guy, wish I could have talked with him a few more times.

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

I apologize to the Santee Family that I did not sign this guest book sooner. I had the absolute honor of surfing Trestles with Danny through his high school and junior college years. He learned and excelled in the sport very quickly and before long, he was catching more waves then us "old timer longboarders." His enthusiasm for surfing and other endeavors in life was extremely contagious. I never heard him say a swear word or say anything negative about anyone. He was truly an honorable young man. Now when I go surfing, I truly miss Danny's presence and wish he was in the line-up with us. I know he is looking down on us from Heaven and I hope to catch some waves with him in the afterlife. P.S. Burt, we want you back in the line-up with us too.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

I'll never forget being Cathy's mother's helper/housecleaner when I was just about 10 or 11 for a few years. Danny was a tiny little chap, and so gregarious, funny and smiling. Although I am so sad that he is no longer with us here on earth, I'm thankful for his willingness to go where many wouldn't and be ready to die for his country. love to you all-- Nathan, Laura, Burt and Cathy.

I met Dan my senior year of high school and we became friends right away. He came with me and my family on vacation once, and even through college we made time to talk and spend time together. He always had a smile on his face and something encouraging to say, and he was probably the most motivated and goal-oriented person i ever met. Dan was a blessing to everyone who met him. i really cared for him, and i will miss him so much! I can't wait for the day when i get to see him again! Debbie and I did not personally know Danny, but he was a member of our church for a while before we started attending. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan with the Air Force, so Danny's death brings home the reality of how fragile and fleeting life is for all of us. But our Great God and Father created us to be mortal and fragile so that we could more clearly see how unchanging, how eternal, how dependable He is during times of trial. Because of God's character, He promises that we are His, through Christ's blood, and we know, without a doubt that it is true. I also know that Danny believed this, and right now, although his body has been broken, he has been healed for all eternity and lays peacefully in the arms of Jesus, waiting for the rest of us to join him. May God's most powerful Holy Spirit fill us all, and especially Danny's family, with the peace that can only come from our Loving God. May our hearts remember the life Danny lived and find joy in the years God gave him to us. May God also give us peace in Iraq and Afghanistan--Please bring our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers home safely and quickly. To Christ's glory. Amen.

Danny was the coolest person there could ever be. He was nice, funny, and smart. I remember hanging out with him and my brother a long time ago when Danny broke his arm. That was such an adventure packed day! =].It seemed as though every time Danny said "Trust me" you knew that something not so good was going to happen. Although i do not remember him that much; seeing that i was young at the time, I just remember him being awesome, and everything anyone could ever want in a friend. I know that he is in Heaven now with God having the time of his life. I know that he will never ever be forgoten and always loved. I just hope that someday everyone that knew him will get the chance to see him again =] We Miss you Danny!!!!

He made me smile, think, laugh, and he inspired me in many ways. I thank God that I was able to know Dan and learn from him, and I thank his parents because no person could have been raised better. I love you Dan, and I'll see you whenever my time on earth is over. Save me a good seat :)

I am the sister of one of Dan's friends from VU, Mary Hering. My dad found out this information just this morning in the paper. I am so saddened by this news. Dan came with our family on vacation one time. A copuple years ago, in Santa Barbara. He so easily fit in and got along with everyone. He had only known my sister prior to joining us, and everyone just loved him right off the bat. He was pretty humorous too! We've seen him a couple times after this and felt like he was family. My sister occasionally gave me an update on how he was doing and I was always impressed by his ambition and fearlessness.
My heart goes out to your family in the deepest way. I am so sorry for your loss. What a good person Dan was. My husband and I will not forget him.

Danny was an exceptional person who made many friends at City Hall. For those of us who interacted with him while he was a Fire Department Intern, he was always well liked (and kept well-fed!). He was a standout the moment he first strode off the 5th elevator in uniform. I clearly recall Danny shaking my hand, looking me straight in the eye and making introductions. He then said with his energetic approach and broad smile, in what was to become a wonderful daily greeting to me: "Hi, Carol--how's it goin'?"
Burt and family, my heart goes out to you. In remembering Danny and the fine young man that he was, we honor him. He is a hero to so many, and now he is truly soaring with angels. May the wonderful memories of all that he is and was, comfort you.

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had pased away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away... He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.'" Rev 21:1-7
In the midst of deep grief and pain, we cling to the hope Christ has given us. We mourn with you for your loss, but in confidence that Danny Santee has overcome, there is no grief or pain that can touch him. He is a son of the living God. That is his true and eternal identity in Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Dear Burt and Family: Even though I did not personally meet Danny, my husband Bill talked about him all the time. It was like he was becoming a part of our family. My husband spent 20 years in the Marine Corps. When he retired he went to work for CMPD it was at that time that he meet Danny.
This is a tremendous loss to all, as Danny was a Son to his Family, a Hero for our Country and now lives with our Lord.

We here at Fire Station 31 were deeply sadden at hearing the news about Dan. As a fire explorer assigned in Mission Viejo, I can sincerely say that it was a joy to have known your son. As others have mentioned in this guest book, he was filled with enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a very respectful person. Because of the character you instilled in him, his calling to the armed forces to defend our country was no suprise. If there is anything that the crews or the explorers here at FS 31 can do to assist you during this greaving process, please let me know.

Dear Burt, Cathie, Laura and Nathan - You are in my thoughts and prayers. What a tremendous tragedy to have to count Danny as one of our nation's fallen heroes. Danny was just one of those people just chockful of life, energy and light. I know he is fitting right into heaven where you will see him again someday. May the Lord comfort and keep you in this dark time. Bless you.

Dan,
You were a friend to me when we both shared the 5th Floor as Interns at the City of Costa Mesa last year. All of us, who had the opportunity to work with you, were so very fortunate.
Your enthusiasm, charisma and genuine attitude are the best examples of servitude for us to strive for. Your service to our country makes you a true hero.
My prayers are with your family and friends.
Peace be with you brother.
Sincerely,
The Daniel W. Pegausch Family

To Burt, Catherine, Nathan and Laura - My heart goes out to all of you in this sad time. I had the privilege of knowing Danny for only a short time, but I will never forget the big smile he gave me when we met. He had the opportunity to have an easy job and continue working for the City of Costa Mesa, but he chose the tougher road. I admired him for that. Not many are as brave as he was. He was destined to do greater things. I will remember him always with fondness and admiration.

I keep looking for him to come home and drive away in his white truck and smile and wave Hi. Or to stop by when we are outside to see how my girls are doing. Danny, we are going to miss your bright eyes and smiling face. Burt, Laura, Nathan and Cathy, I can't express enough how sorry we are and how proud we are to have known such a shinging star and wonderful human being! You can't find much better than Danny out there.

Though I never knew Danny well, I know what its like to lose those you love. Danny was brave to join and fight for his country, and he died protecting his country, giving to our country the ultimate sacrifice. He will always be remebered whether it be reminiscing in youth group or praying in church. His family will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Know that there will always be someone there for you, to talk to, to lend a hand. Take joy in knowing that Danny rests with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I was only able to correspond with him after he left the fire department but he left behind a standard of service that every intern will be expected to carry out. I was very proud to wear his badge and even prouder to give it up in his remebrance. My deepest sympathies to his family and i hope to meet them when they return to work.
