Edgar E. Lopez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
†Marine Sgt. Edgar E. Lopez On one of his last family outings, Edgar E. Lopez walked the beach with his 4-year-old daughter in search of seashells and got on hands and knees to patiently build a perfect sandcastle. "He was so full of life, and he was having so much fun with the kids, he was like a kid himself," said his wife, Rosie. Lopez, 27, of Los Angeles, was killed in enemy action Aug. 28 in Iraq''s Babil province. He was based at Camp Lejeune. Lopez loved to have friends over for barbecues and watch sports on TV with his 2-year-old son, Edgar Jr. _ in matching Raiders jerseys. Lopez was a dedicated Marine in his second tour of duty in Iraq, but he planned to leave when his enlistment expired in three years, his wife said. He talked about becoming a police officer or firefighter. "In his letters, he would say he wanted to get out because he was always gone and he wasn''t watching his kids grow up," she said.

Brother,
Thank you for your wisdom and frienship. You are not forgotten. You have been an inspiration to my life. I'm sorry I couldn't have been there for you, I let you down, and for that I'm sorry. Thank you for being a friend to me when I needed it. You are one of the reasons I cry when I see the beautiful American Flag. I still pray for your family. I miss you brother.

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Sgt Lopez. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Sgt Lopez knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Sgt Lopez!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Edgar, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

You are remembered and respected. Thank you Sgt Lopez!

July 27, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

To live in the hearts of those you leave behind is never to die"

~Robert Orr~

Those we love remain with us,

for love itself lives on...

And cherished memories never fade,

Because a loved one's gone....

Those we love can never be,

more than a thought apart....

For as long as there is memory,

They'll live on in the heart.

To anyone that reads this I direct your attention to a couple things. Sgt Walsh first off stated it best The Corps will be at a loss without this Marine. I had the pleasure of serving with Lo in 2003 and 2004 This was one of the best poeple I have ever met. The Love he had for his Marines and his Corpsman was insurpassable... This comin from his prior corpsman. He was one of the best Sgt's I knew and I will miss him he taught me alot in the time I served with him. Some may have said he was hard but those who knew him knew it was cause he cared. He will be Missed Greatly GOD BLESS HIM. "Semper Fidelis" and to the family if you ever need anything just contact me and I will do what I can HM3(SW) Reed, Joshua

Hey Edgar! I was looking through the Houston Chronicle and I ran across this part of the site; I searched for your name and well here you are... I miss you bunches and there were a lot of things let unsaid. Some day we'll see each other again and we'll catch up. Just know that you will forever be my hero and that you will always be remembered. I keep Ana and Jr in my prayers. Watch over your lil' ones, my lil' peanut that I have growing inside of me, and my pumpkin that is awaiting my return back in the states. Miss u!

Sgt. Lopez was one of the finest Marines that I have and will ever work next too. He helped me time and time again when ever I needed it or he thought I needed it. The Marine Corps. and the world are at a great loss without him. He will forever be in the hearts and minds of Marines he served along with, and stood next too.In loving memory...
