Luis E. Gutierrez-Rosales Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2007.
He would say, 'Hi, how are you' to anyone on the street. And I say that not because he was my son, but because it is the truth," said Maria Rosales. Gutierrez-Rosales, 38, of Bakersfield, Calif., was killed July 18 by explosives and small arms fire in Adhamiyah. He was on his second tour and was assigned to Schweinfurt, Germany. Gutierrez-Rosales, or "Kiki," as his family called him, was an 18-year Army veteran. As a boy he drew pictures of guns on his school notebooks and he always wanted to be a soldier, said his older sister, Sandra Rosales. Gutierrez-Rosales loved motorcycles and sipping tequila with his cousins. He read voraciously and loved the movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective." And he loved animals: He had pet dogs and cats, and when he was stationed in Alaska he kept an iguana. The men in his platoon respected him so much they would call to check in on him when he was at home. "He was a happy, happy guy," said his mother. He also is survived by his 8-year-old daughter, Amber.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Luis E. Gutierrez-Rosales US Army Sergeant 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Hey Battle, it's Memorial weekend 2016. You have been gone a while. I often think of your daughter wondering how she is doing. If she only knew how awesome her dad was.....a true Angel.....miss you battle. GOD BLESS YOU CONTINOUSLY. In honor of you this Memorial Day!

I found out yesterday from a former battle buddy from BCT that DS Gutierrez had been taken to soon. It is kind of surreal. I till this day would tell stories about him to my friends and kids, he really impacted my life. In basic he would call me Maniac (being from Maine and all). You will always be remembered, God Bless.

Today on December 8, my daughter Brianna was talking about you and your wonderful personality that I know your family surely miss.... Guti...I miss you battle! Brianna still remember when you told her the story about the 4 scratches on your arm, you told her you were fighting tigers and you told her not to tell me. I don't think she ever did until today that I remember. I was so focused then but now as a civilian I am all ears and everything matters... Wow, she was 7 or 8 years old then, now she is 20 and doing well Guti, she is in Nursing school... you would be proud Battle...thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration to us all. God is good and I know you are one of his angels. Love ya battle...DS Brown

Sgt. G! I was new to the 82nd Airborne back in 1995 when I first met you. You were my team leader, squad leader, but you were my friend. Since that time, I have tried to live my life in the ways that you taught me. With the honor, duty, and dignity you taught me to. I can still remember the days when we trained, laughed, and ate dinner at your house. You will NOT be forgotten. ALL THE WAY, SARGE.

SFC Gutierrez,
You were my Drill Sergeant in the late summer of 2002. I remember, though you were all business most of the time, when we would lay down after a hard day's work, you would walk through the barracks and tell everyone "goodnight". If someone said, "Hey Drill Sergeant", you would walk over and talk to them quietly. People were lonely, and scared, and you were kind enough to recognize that and "secretly" show your soft side.
It always reminded me of my dad, and brought me comfort.
I always respected you, and thought of you as superman. The posterboy of the Army.
Here, 10 years later, 4 years after your departure, I found out that you made the ultimate sacrifice. I'm so saddened to hear of it, and so proud that you died serving the country that you so loved, protecting the family that you cherished.

Thank you, my hero, for your sacrifice.

May God bless your family, and bring them comfort and peace.

DS Gutierrez, Again as I have said on other guestbooks I am so shocked. As soon as I found your picture online I went to get out my BCT pics and the Green Army Values Card you gave me at the end of the Final Roadmarch. You have me the guidence of what an NCO should be. I made it from PVT to SSG in about 6 years. I give most of that credit to you. you kept me as the PG most of the cycle in order to give me the chance to show my leadership skills. You are on Soldier I would have walked into battle with any day of the week. My hear goes out to your family. I haev a few pics of you from BCT I will try to add it for family and friends.

June 2, 2009

On this day, 2 June 2009, almost two years later I had to find out that I lost my battle buddy downrange. DS Gutierrez and I were drill sergeants together in Fort Jackson 2000-2002, what a great spirit, a beautiful soul, and warm person who did nothing but spread happiness all around, he cared from the bottom of his heart. I remember one thing most if I didn't remember anything else was the love he had for his precious daughter, he talked about her day in and day out. We shared that in common because I have a daughter, so ever second we got it was about our girls. I thought of his daughter instantly today when I heard the news. My heart goes out to her. God bless you my child. His sister quoted "God doesn't want the good looking guys in heaven" I couldn't help but laugh because that is something he would say. He always came up with some off the wall stuff...lol The Soldiers laughed when he called cadence because his accent was so thick. I want to take this moment and thank my battle because he was there for me during a very rough period in my life and I truly love my brother in Christ for his caring and loving spirit and kind words of wisdom he bestowed upon me. What an angel God has added to his list. I am sure my battle is looking down and smiling that beautiful smile that he often glistened upon his face day in and down out regardless of how gloomy the some days seemed sometimes. He trained hard, he produced the best Soldiers in the U.S Army, he taught me a thing or two on how to train and fight as an Infantryman, he did what he love to do and that was to protect and serve with honor, duty, respect and selfless service!!

SFC Gutierrez-Rosales was my drill sergeant throughout basic training in 2002 – he was my mentor, role model, and hero. He will always be remembered as a great leader, an honorable soldier, and for his instilling in us his Ranger tactics.
Throughout 9 weeks he was all we knew, and he pushed us to be better soldiers… After BCT, he continued to be a great friend and was my advisor.
On behalf of myself and my fellow comrades, I wish to thank DS Gutierrez for everything he has taught us and what he has done for the Army and his country.

My prayers are with his family and his daughter….
This is a tribute to all our fallen service members and all those that are serving over-seas.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Luis, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

It was a blessing for me to run into you at BIAP over seven years later, and five weeks before you made the ultimate sacrifice. I will never forget your smile and your love that you had for your daughter. I was honored I was able to see her picture and see your adoration for her. Thank you for giving me the support in helping to shape me into the Soldier and woman I am today. I miss you and you will always be in my heart.

To the Family of SFC Gutierrez
My son 1st Sgt Jeffrey McKinney served with Luis and they were apparently very good friends. My son died on July 11 and we were in Germany to bury him when we heard of your loss. As a matter of fact, Luis was scheduled to deliver a tribute for my son at the memorial service scheduled in Iraq for July 19 and they had apparently already printed up the program because it still had his name on it and then he lost his life the day before the memorial. I am unable to tell you how truly sorry we are for your loss and we completely understand the grief a family goes through at times like this. We will forever be proud of all of our young men and women who wear the uniform in defense of our rights and freedoms. I am still having a very difficult time dealing with our loss. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. If you would like to contact me please email or call me at 817-577-9910. Again, thank you for your sacrifice.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I can only imagine your pain at this time and want again to say THANK YOU for raising this young man with the courage and integrity to join our Armed Forces.
