Nathan K. Bouchard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 23, 2005.
In high school, Nathan K. Bouchard was a 5-foot-5-inch "little bulldog" who bored through offensive lines and into backfields for the occasional sack. "He probably weighed 135 pounds soaking wet," said former football coach Mark Chandler. "He created havoc for the opposing teams. When you watched films, you could really see the guys cheating, trying to pull him down." Bouchard, 24, of Wildomar, Calif., died Aug. 18 in Samarra when a bomb detonated near his vehicle. He was based at Fort Stewart and was on his second deployment. Neighbors said Nathan was always active, shooting hoops for hours with other children in the neighborhood. He also loved to surf, hike and mountain bike. "He was always happy," said Steve Harding, a family friend. "I'd never seen him in a bad mood." Bouchard graduated from high school in 1999 and spent two years at Mt. San Jacinto College before enlisting. He often signed his letters home with "Esse quam Verdi" _ Latin for "to be rather than to seem." He is survived by his parents, Alida and John.

I just wanted to let you know that, I think about Nate often. and sometimes its hard to believe he is no longer with us. I did not know him that well, but he spent his last Christmas with us before he went to Iraq. My daughter Christina was dating him at the time and I believe she loved him very much. She has never been the same since. I had never seen her as happy as I did as when she was with Nate. He was so full of life and joy and when Nate died she lost some of that also. I know that Nate is with our Heavenly Father. Just know that he will NEVER be forgotten! God Bless you all.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nathan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Nate, I will never forget how wonderful of a man you were. You were always such a gentleman to me, and so much fun to be around. Keep watch over us all. We miss you so much!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would like to send my condolences to the Bouchard Family. Of course you know what a blessing Nate was. I worked and hung out with Nate and the guys at McDonough's here in Savannah. It is true what people say, Nate always put a smile on your face and made you feel welcome. Nate definitely stood out from the rest with his thumbs up, goofy smile, and we cannot forget the SANDALS!
Nate was a great guy who I will never forget and who will also be missed dearly.

Nathan,
I am so glad to have known you and so sad that you are gone.

I knew Nathan from McDonouhg's, a favorite haunt. He'd be there with his army buddies singing karaoke. I met him not long after moving to Savannah from Oceanside. He was introduced to me as a fellow Californian which eased my acute homesickness. He always greeted me with a big, bright smile and a hearty hug. That was his way. Some people radiate light and warmth. Their presence is healing. Nate was one of those people. The fact of whose existence redeems one's faith in humanity. He was for me a little bit of home in a strange, new, faraway place. If I walked into a room and Nate was there I always took comfort and felt welcome. He made everybody feel that way. I will always remember him with fondness. There are not enough people like Nate in the world. He was a bright and beautiful star. I did not know him as well as I would have liked, but however brief and casual our meeting, I am proud to be considered among his friends.

We miss you Nathan.

To Nathan's family,
Thank you for having raised such an awesome person. I offer my most heartfelt sympathy. I bid you strength and faith.

John & Lita,

My Lord what can I say, Nathan grew up before my eyes. Catch, street hockey, swimming, Nate was a fine boy, who I'm sure grew into a fine young man, one who you guy's certainly can be proud of. I send you my deepest sympathies and wish I could find some words of comfort for you at this time. Nathan is with the Lord now and I'm sure he's far better off than we are, for what that's worth. I would have come to your home but Sandra tells me you are in Arizona now. Please give a holler. My Lord, take care you two. Rick

to the brothers and sisters of my dear friend nate, first, may glory be to God above for the name of Jesus was sweet upon your son's lips, then, may you rest assure there is no one who met nate that wasn't significantly blessed by him. we both know it was not his physical pressence or his eloquent words but the genuine love that overflowed from his heart to those around him. we had made plans to surf when his tour in iraq was through but i will have to wait until heaven to see him again. nate loved you so much and therefore i love you as well.

until the grace of God brings together again,

Dear Bouchard Family,

Our son, Jon B.(Brad)Horton, is a Scout with the 3-69 and served with Nathan in Samarra.

Brad has spoken often of his friendship with Nathan. In recent emails home and in his LiveJournal entries, Brad described your son as "a true friend. We hung out after work all the time." He was "my skateboarding buddy and karaoke partner in crime."

We had the pleasure of meeting Nathan at one of the guy's favorite "watering holes", McDonough's Tavern in Savannah. There we witnessed some of the aforementioned karaoke performances!

In a tribute to Nathan and the other three soldiers who died with him, Brad,in his journal, described them and his loss in this way: "4 friends, soldiers, men, brothers, and sons......I will miss all 4 of them forever and will never be the same. I'm one of the oldest 21 year olds I know. RIP guys. Sabre 0 was an awesome crew."

Our sincere condolences and heartfelt prayers are extended to you.

Prayerfully,

Jill and Max Horton

Mr. and Mrs. Bouchard,

Please except my heartfelt condolences to you. I had the pleasure of meeting Nate, he came to the house on leave with my son, Jay. Jay was stationed with Nate at Fort Stewart, and they with Ray Fuhrmann were all good freinds. In fact, When Jay and Nate came home, they surprized me and took me to a Dave Matthews concert! We had so much fun.. I remember Nate to this day, playing frisbee with Jay, before the concert started. Nate was such a great guy. It was a pleasure to have known him. My heart is broken, and I cry for your loss. Jay called me from Iraq to tell me about what happened,we cried together. We cried for all the guys.. Jay lost some very close friends that day....and my heart is breaking. I will miss Nate, his beautiful smile, and his freindship...

God Bless and comfort you. Please know that I am with you during this time..

God Bless our troops..

Sincerly,

Jay's mom..
