Daniel Mootz Obituary

Daniel Lee Mootz, 54, was welcomed into heaven Monday morning, Dec. 12, 2011, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Dan was a very caring man and made friends with everyone he met. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.

Dan was an amazing watercolor artist and was beginning to explore the beauty of photography. He loved cheering for the Green Bay Packers with his son and father-in-law.

Dan was the owner of Framing Excellence and also was employed at Home Depot.

Dan was born June 21, 1957, to Glenn and Meta Mootz in Merrill, Wisconsin. He married Karen Lambrecht on April 3, 1982. Dan was a 1975 graduate of Merrill Senior High School. He was a member of Wisconsin Valley Art Association and Wisconsin Valley Art Guild.

Dan is survived by his wife, Karen of Rib Mountain; son, Anthony (Leah) of Shakopee, Minn.; daughter, Miranda of Rib Mountain; brothers, Robert (Helen Kay) and Kenneth (Sandy) of Merrill; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary Lou and Albert Milner of Rib Mountain; aunts and uncles, David and Joann Sauer and Lavern and Bernice Sauer of Merrill; nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents in 2010.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Waid Funeral Home Chapel and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. The Waid Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Dear Karen & family,
I only knew Dan through the Art's Guild, he gave a presentation on the excellence of framing. He appeared a confident, quiet and sincere man. He matted/framed pieces that won awards for me. Awards I shared with him. Thank you Dan. We will all miss your smile.

Just as the sunshine lifed my spirit during my noon walk today, Dan's art has surely lifted the spirits of others. Though I did not personally know him, I have great respect for the work he has accomplished.

Dan's visitation last night was very healing. The photo boards brought many smiles to peoples faces. Only having known Dan for a few years, I never knew what he looked like as a young husband and father. In most every photo he wore a smile; just as he did in life as I knew him. His love for his family was shown in all of them. Dan will certainly live on in many hearts through the sweet memories he created.

Dan was a talented artist and a gifted framer. It was impossible not to make friends with him after meeting him about once. He will be sorely missed.

"I will miss Dan dearly". He was always so encouraging and helpful to me with art suggestions and framing questions I had. He was also so kind to everyone and was so humble. Such a talented artist. He usually delivered frames I ordered right to my house on his way to or from work. He took so much pride in his work and appreciated others' work. The art community will surely miss his kindness and framing expertise. Pam Clark (Wausau, WI)
