Rita McGaffigan Obituary

Rita Beatrice (Cronin) McGaffigan age 96, died peacefully at home on Feb. 11, 2011. She was the devoted wife of the late James A. McGaffigan. Born in Boston, MA on September 13, 1914, she was daughter of the late Jeremiah and Alice (Wallace) Cronin. She was educated in Boston, a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School as well as Burdette College. She worked for the Fisher Music Company in Boston and later for the Wellesley College Library. She lived in Needham until moving to Plymouth in 2003. She was the loving mother of James of Litchfield, NH; Neil of Fairbanks, Alaska; Janet Mason of Concord; Helen Filla of Plymouth; William of Davenport, Iowa; Regina of Denver, CO; and John of Dedham. She was the beloved sister of the late James Cronin and the late Helen Donovan. She cherished her role as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. A Funeral service was held at the Cartmell Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Marys Church, 313 Court St., No. Plymouth. Interment wwas at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Contributions in her memory may be made to Fragile Footprints of Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle, Suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360. To all my cousins, Auntie will be dearly missed. She was a very special part of our lives and will forever be in our thoughts and prayers. Happy memories of our times together will always be cherished.
