Mr Alan Wood, of Ashgate, Chesterfield, has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, aged 87.
Born in Clay Cross and a resident of Ashgate for 60 years, Alan completed his National Service in the Royal Engineers, served his apprenticeship at the Clay Cross Company and enjoyed a long career as an engineer and manager at the National Coal Board.
He had a keen interest in the countryside, spent many years walking and caravaning around the UK making lifelong friends along the way. A committed DIY enthusiast, he loved to fix and renovate things.
Alan was predeceased by his beloved wife Judith and leaves sons Simon, Timothy and James, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service takes place on 15th December 2017, Chesterfield Crematorium, at 10.30am.

Many happy memories of "woody" I was a clerk at the ATC Grassmoor and remember him as both engineer and manager at that now demolished establishment.He was a kindly man and very good man manager.
