Mahlon S. Arner, Jr., 94, of the Village at Palmerton, formerly of Columbia Avenue, Palmerton, died Sunday evening, April 9, 2017, at Blue Mountain Health Systems, Palmerton Campus. He was the husband of the Joyce A. (Christman) Arner who passed in 2011. Born in Lehighton, he was a son of the late Mahlon S., Sr. and Catherine (Hoover) Arner. Mahlon was the owner/operator of the former Arner's Pastry Shoppe, Delaware Avenue, Palmerton. Later he worked for various businesses in Palmerton, and surrounding areas. He was a member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trachsville. A 1940 graduate of the Lehighton High School, he then served in the Army Air Corps, European Theatre, earning 6 bronze campaign stars, achieving rank of corporal. Mahlon enjoyed playing pinochle, music, singing, keyboard playing, violin, and clarinet. Mahlon also volunteered entertaining senior citizens throughout several local nursing facilities. Survivors: daughters, Diane J. wife of Terry Serfass of Palmerton, Carol A. wife of Rev. Dr. Gary L. Kuehner of Hamburg. 5 grandchildren, Michele, Michael, Joshua, Jacob, and Jonah. 10 great grandchildren. Services: Memorial Services, 11:00AM Thursday, Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville), PA 18071. Call, 10-11AM Thursday in church. We are the family who purchased Mr. Arner's home on Columbia Ave. I would have loved to get to know him better. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. He seemed like a wonderful man.
We love our home and are so grateful to him and his family for creating such a loving space to pass on.
