Lawrence Atwell Chipps
June 10, 1927 - November 17, 2016
Stanford, Kentucky
Lawrence Atwell Chipps, 89, formerly of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died November 17, 2016. Born June 10, 1927 in Cowan, West Virginia, he was the son of Clarence Atwell and Nellie Smith Chipps. He worked for DuPont for 34 years and was a member of the National Guard for 23 years, and retired as Captain. He served in Korea with the 1092nd Combat Engineers. He was preceded in death by two children, Nancy Jane Chipps, and David Atwell Chipps, as well as two brothers, Willard Chipps and Roger Chipps and a sister, Dorthea Chipps.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia Sue Boone Chipps, a daughter, Judy (Mike) Spellacy of Stanford, son-in-law Peter Staples, daughter-in-law Karen Chipps, a brother Michael (Fran) Chipps of Parkersburg, W.V., three sisters, Jane Horell, Alice Mick, and Catherine Chapman, three grandchildren, Addam Chipps, David (Jamie) Chipps, Megan (Nick) Arnold, and seven great-grandchildren, Addison Chipps, Kadden Chipps, Nicole Chipps, Allie Chipps, Ashlyn McGee, Devon Arnold and Hunter Arnold.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. An online guestbook is available at www.stithfuneralhome.net.
