Charles Wilbur Macon, 80, of Raleigh, died July 13, 2015 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh.

Born October 4, 1934 in Zebulon, Charles was the son of William Nathaniel and Ina Long Macon. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University, and retired from Blue Cross / Blue Shield.

Charles was a devoted Christian; a loving husband, father and grand-father. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 50 years, where he was a former deacon, church treasurer and Sunday School class teacher.

He was an avid Wake Forest fan, an "Old Raleigh Boy", a member of the Raleigh Sports Club and Healthtrax. He served in the NC National Guard; he also enjoyed time with all his "buddies". Charles loved the beach and summers at Emerald Isle. He gave countless volunteer hours coaching youth football and basketball.

Charles is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ola Best "Duck" Macon; his children, DeAnn Macon Moser and husband Jeff, of Charlotte, Dawn Macon Ruffner and husband Bill, of Greensburg, PA, Dr. Charles Randall Macon and wife Pam, of Raleigh, Courtney Macon Cudd and husband Preston, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Bo Ruffner of San Diego, CA, Callie Moser of Boca Raton, FL, Saranan Moser of Charlotte, Emily Macon of Raleigh; grand-cat Kismet Cudd. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Beulah Busbee, Helen Moxley and Marie Macon.

The memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday morning, July 15, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh. Friends may visit with the family following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to either Trinity Baptist Church; or, to TAP - Triangle Aphasia Project, in Cary.

I was so sad to hear of Charles' death. I worked with him at Blue Cross and we had many laughs together. I loved to play tricks on "Chuck Mason" and he had such a wonderful sense of humor. He will be missed by many.

Charles will certainly be missed by all of his friends at Healthtrax. His laugh made working out for all of us a little easier. He is now with all of his boys from that championship team.
