Melbourne, FL

Mary Birkel, 91, passed on April 26, 2015.  Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, she attended Meredith College in Raleigh. 

After moving to Florida with her late husband, George Birkel, Jr., she volunteered at Brevard Hospital, now HRMC, and was active with First Baptist Church of Melbourne.  She was a good role model for young women pursing a career and family. 

Her family includes her daughter and son in law, Rachel Birkel-Rothleutner and RJ Rothleutner; son and daughter in law, J. Wayne and Bonnie Birkel; son, Allen Worth Birkel; grandchildren, Christopher Birkel, Michelle Birkel and Thomasin Rothleutner; great grandchildren, Nash and Jude; great great grandchild, Aubrey; and her brother, Allen D. Stephenson. 

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm with services to begin at 2pm on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, Melbourne, FL 321 724.2222.  In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Humane Society of South Brevard, 2600 Otter Creek Lane, Melbourne, Florida 32940.
