Robert Charrette Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 4 to Feb. 5, 2015.
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Robert (Bobcat) Charrette announce his passing at the age of 62 on Sunday, February 01, 2015 at the Ottawa General Hospital, Ottawa, Ontario. With great strength and determination Bob fought a brief battle with cancer.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Sindy (Gen); brothers Bill (Cindy) and Don (Lorraine); nephew and niece Mark and Lisa; and his friends in both Ottawa and Vancouver.

Bob was predeceased by his mother, Denise Charrette.

Bob grew up in Ottawa, attended St. Joseph's and St. Christopher's Elementary schools, Hillcrest High School, and graduated from Algonquin College with an Ontario Diploma in Carpentry.

In his professional life, Bob worked for a brief period of time as a materiel manager for the federal government followed by office coordinator and fitness instructor at the YM-YWCA and up until his passing, pursued his passion as a carpenter, working for Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd. (Ottawa) and Newway Concrete Forming Ltd. (Vancouver). Bob was greatly respected in the construction industry for his expertise with concrete, working on large scale building projects throughout Ottawa, Louisiana, Calgary, North Carolina, New York, the Arctic Circle and Vancouver.

Bob was a hard-working and giving man. With his baseball cap firmly in place, he was always ready to lend a hand, no matter the task. He loved to cook and enjoyed having friends over for a few beverages. Bob was a big hockey fan, with the Boston Bruins being his favorite team. Bob had a lifelong love of fishing and deep appreciation of the outdoors.

Special thanks to all those who provided care and comfort to Bob and his family during his stay at the Burnaby General and Ottawa General Hospitals.

At Bob's wish, no wake or memorial service will be held. Those wishing to pay their respects are asked to remember Bob through a random act of kindness.

I lost my wife Pauline to cancer on February 6, 2021. She had a kind heart just like Bob. Now there are only memories of these two special people to hold on to.

Bob would have been 69 today. Happy Birthday Bobcat!!!

To honour Pauline and Bob I am making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society today.

I knew Bobby back in our Mann Avenue days (late 50's). Bob was a good friend and had a great sense of humour, making us all laugh. I hadn't spoken to Bobby since those days but will miss him.

Happy Birthday Bobcat, It has been 40 years less a day since Ottawa won the Grey Cup. What a game this past Sunday. I remember when you and I attended the 1976 Grey Cup game in Toronto at the old CNE stadium. Tony Gabriel won it on a pass from Tom Clements with 23 seconds left in the game. You tackled me at that moment, but I was able to save my drink. lol We kept warm with coffee mixed with Grand Marinier that was in your mother's thermos. That weekend was so special. We even got two tickets for the Bruins - Leafs game on Saturday night. Imagine $25 each and we sat 5 rows up just behind the net. Boston lost 4 to 2, but the night was special. I will always hold on to those memories. We all miss you.

With all of our love!

The following letter was written by my wife Pauline on Nov. 17, 2014.

Hello Bob,

Because of the weather I won't be able to see you today, but I would like to say thank you. I have stopped smoking because of you. It has been 9 days, including today. What gives me the strength was the promise I made you the first time we met. You are like my little angel. I told Gary that I find it easier than all the other times I tried to stop. I am using the patches you gave me and I think of you every day.

I only met you one time, but I can confirm that everything that Gary told me about you was the truth. You are a beautiful person and fun to be with. You are sick and still have a smile. Wow! You are so special I am proud that I was able to meet you. My only regret is that we were not able to spend a week with you in Vancouver. I know that we would have had a lot of fun, but there is a reason for everything.

I just hope that with your treatment you will be able to find enough strength to get out of the hospital so that you can visit us for 2 days at our cottage on the lake. We can just talk, watch TV, or do whatever you feel like doing. It would be so special just being there with you.

Anyway, I just wanted to send you this letter to thank you for everything and I will see you soon.

Take care,

Paula xxxx

I never met you, but seeing the dedication of your brothers while you were recently in the hospital, and reading all the kind words, I can see you were loved. Your brothers loved you and cared for you to the last minute. I wish I would have known you. I only met you once at your mother's place at chirstmas time.
YOU worked so hard all your life and hope that heaven is a better place for you now. Watch over your brothers while up there, and hug your mom if you meet her in heaven's gate.
Bob sure had a busy life. REST IN PEACE. Daisy (Diane Monette)

We will always remember the good times. You were my best friend and I considered you my brother. My dad, Karen, Dawson, Alan, and my two daughters Marina and Vanessa all loved you. My wife, Pauline, recently met you for the first time and it only took her 20 minutes to know that she loved you.
Anyone that met you knew that you had a heart of gold. The happiness of others was always the most important thing on your mind. With all of our love! Thank you for your kindness, friendship, and love. We will miss you dearly.

Bob was a dear man, and I will always remember him for his great humor. He loved to tease and found the funny side of everything. We were so sad to hear of his illness, and heard daily accounts of his courage. His passing leaves a big void in the lives of his family, and he will be missed by countless friends.
