Master Cpl. Josh Roberts August 9, 2008

It is with great sadness that I read of the loss of another of Canada’s soldiers. A young man, who was soon to be a father, was soon to be home again to rejoice at the birth of his new child. Was soon to share in this moment with those near to him. Our hearts go out to all those who were awaiting his safe return.

August 9th was a very special day in the life of my family as we attended my third son’s high school graduation. I watched with pride and listened as they introduced each and every grad and heard as their future aspirations were laid forth for all present to hear. I heard of choices to such a variety of careers and thought of how, no matter what, we as parents have to stand by the choices our son’s or daughter’s make for their futures. Master Cpl. Josh Roberts chose a future in the service of his country and in his efforts, worked towards making our world a better place. I cannot imagine a more honorable choice. I can also not imagine the loss of this bright, brave and noble individual to his family, friends, fellow soldiers, and especially the loss to his fiancé Lise and their son to be.

We as Canadians must now step forward to stand near now that Josh cannot. Though our distance is needed for your privacy, may we gently and caringly lay forth a prayer for your little one. I wrote this prayer for my oldest son and it is with the humblest of hearts, that I pass it on for Josh’s son Meyer.

For you I pray the lord will always be near
I pray you will forever find a strength in his presence
That will grow as you grow
To be there when you need it
And never forgotten when you don’t
You are a gift of his choosing
With a purpose you and he shall share with those about you
God bless

Master Cpl. Josh Roberts, we knew you not, but our prayers reach out for you, your loved ones, friends, and fellow soldiers. We do, so dearly, thank you and your loved ones for your efforts towards making our world a better place.
