Although i never met Buck personally, the loving words written by Joyce brings portrays his life lovingly. My condolences to her and the rest of his family.
I was on the speech team for four years with Mr. Ward as our advisor. We packed four girls to a room on our trips to Bakersfield and Ho-Ho-Ho-Holtville. Ate 3 day old popcorn because it tasted better than two day old popcorn and tried our best to survive on the $5.00 a day allowance the school gave us to eat. He was a lot of fun and helped this shy girl break out of her shell. He was more than a teacher, he was a friend.
Mr. Ward was more than just a speech/debate coach for 4 years at Granite Hills, he was a mentor and a friend. I learned more from him than all my other teachers combined. He challenged me to be find the best in myself and taught me to compete like a champion. I still hear his words in my head even today, "stand up, speak up, shut up!" He gave so many so much for so long.
I was privileged to have Mr. Ward as my speech coach my freshman year at Granite Hills. Very much appreciated having a teacher like Mr. Ward. God bless.
To my coach...you taught me more in 4 years than I've learned in the past 35 years. We really had fun and teams ROCKED. I'm flicking my porch light to let you know you got home safe and can go to that big competition in the sky. PAX
I had buck,as student in 1978, in grade, in my liture class, He was great teacher, he will be miss by all.
Mr. Ward was a wonderful teacher.
To Joyce and family: Buck was such a great person and cared so very much for our community and children. There is not replacement for such a truthful, loving soul.
