My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Dan...he was like a father to me and we shared a very special and mutual respect for each other as friends..as Navy veterans...and as horsemen. Dan would always mention that some people just had "it"...and I can honestly not recall a single moment where Dan's character did not command the attention of every environment and those that were among his presence. He definitely had "it" and was definitely an honorable man, respected husband, and respected father and grandfather not only to his family and friends, but to those that were blessed to be taken under his wings...Dan sir...you are definitely one of the last off the dying breed of men....my humble respects..
I now understand why you didn't return my calls Dan. I called your nr today 3/22/14 and was told you passed away a year ago. It is a sad day and I want to express my belated condolences to all your family. You were a great guy and taught me a lot about horses and life in general. You are sorely missed.
Just found this. Dan was a good friend. He was always good to me. He had the ranch down from ours on Broadway. Kept in touch for a while. I used to take out rides for him. He was so kind to my daughter Laura taking her to shows and riding on the beach at Mission Bey. So sad to find this out. I was looking him up to come down to his ranch with my granddaughter and came across this sad news. RIP Dan. See you on the other side. Prayers to your family.
Dan, You were a mentor, a friend, and like a second father to me. I am so sorry for the way I lift the Happy Trails family. Your wisdom will live on in all of us that were lucky enough to have know you. You will be missed and loved forever because of the person you were.
Any day Dan would drop by to visit would brighten that day
Dan was one of my first clients when I began my legal practice and he taught me the Equine business and a lot about life. He was a Mans Man and a Hell of a Horseman. Quick with a joke who loved to laugh and share a meal with friends and family. Never a quiet man but, his words were always interesting and worth your time.
Unfortunately, the light that burns brightest does not usually burn the longest. He leaves a wonderful wife and Grandson as well as many friends that can truly be counted as such all to soon. He will be missed. My only comfort is that he called me and we had time to really talk just before he passed on.

Heaven is now a better place! I will see you when my journey ends. I love you
I thank Dan for his presence at memorable events and shared visions over the past 35 years.

I am saddened of your passing Dan, you were so kind and helpful to me and my family when we boarded at Happy Trails in Escondido, be at peace, Happy Trails
I knew Dan only for a short time while I worked at Happy Trails. He didn't say much to me but what he did say was always good advice or a good story. God Bless the family. Joanne, Garett, Jess, and many friends. Thanks Dan, we'll see ya.
Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, Border Field, and San Pasqual State Historic Park will miss Dan. The State Park could always count on Dan to safely operate any wagon in the park. As a human being, Dan was very special and I am so sad that we have lost him.
So blessed to have known you. God bless you and your family.
p.s. Say hello to Slim for me :-)
