Alex and I are saddened by the passing of Kurt. We have wonderful memories of him and Julie, as they were good friends of my parents, Jim and Mary Crouch. They spent a lot of time together at each others' homes and attending the Retirement Association events. It was a friendship of mutual love and respect. May Kurt's memory be eternal. Our sympathy to each family member.
I was very sorry to learn of the death of Kurt Bohnsack. He and Julie were almost neighbors of ours when we lived off of Fuerte Dr. in La Mesa, and Linda sometimes was a baby sitter for our young children. Kurt was our Department Chair in the 1960s when I was also a faculty member in the Department, and I passed by his office door every day en route between my office and the building entrance. He was always a gentleman, with a lovely sense of humor.
We send our sympathy to Linda and all the Bohnsack family.
It was both a privilege and a pleasure to know Kurt and his dear wife Julie over so many years. His zest for life and his love of music and art served as an inspiration for all who knew him. His brilliance as a scholar and professor was often hidden by his humility and sense of humor in the presence of friends and acquaintances. We are so pleased to learn that he played his precious tuba just one day before his passing.
Please accept our condolences at this difficult time.
Alta and Whit Whitlock

I was fortunate to have been able to take two classes from Dr. Bohnsack while at SDSU. He was one of my favorite professors. Having taught for 34 years myself, I recognize a good teacher. Dr. Bohnsack was a great teacher.
Dear Bohnsack family, my sympathies are with you in the loss of your father and grandfather. I am a former student (Class of 1983) and have always called Dr. Bohnsack my favorite professor. There was no doubt that he thoroughly enjoyed teaching and conveyed his love of nature to his students. I worked at the San Diego Zoo in those days, selling tickets at the front entrance. Whenever he and your mother visited while I was on duty, he would stop and knock on my window with that big beaming smile and wave hello. Another time a couple years after I graduated I returned to hear a lecture by Jane Goodall. The Aztec Center auditorium was full by the time I arrived so I sat out in the hall way to watch via the closed circuit telecast. Dr. Bohnsack came by, saw me and sat down to chat while we were waiting for the lecture to start. When one of the organizers realized that a professor emeritus was sitting outside they offered to escort him inside, but he politely declined and stayed out with those of us in the overflow seats. That was just another indicator of how he demonstrated genuine interest in his students (and former students). To me he will always be the quintessential professor and my experience at SDSU was definitely made better because I was lucky enough to be one of his students. Please let me know when you set his memorial date.
What a wonderful man, Dr. Bohnsack! We were blessed to have many happy times over the years with him and his family, and fondly remember Dr. Bohnsack's booming voice and laughter, twinkling eyes, and many an interesting story. Dr. and Mrs. Bohnsack were such wonderful friends to our parents too. God bless you all. We will miss him. Love from Dan, Kari (Karlsgodt), Kaarina and Klara Koskinen
What a dear, dear man. Kurt, we are so happy that you are once again with the love of your life. Our prayers are with your family because you inspired and loved them deeply. We are guessing that there will be some bridge games happening in heaven real soon.
