Brought up all over the world we did not have the privilege of knowing our Grandma well. Yet the few memories we have of her, will never fade.
Here is a collection of our memoires entitled ‘One day with Grandma'
‘Do you have a place to stay? You are welcome to stay here.' Repeating this with the same amount of kindness and hospitality the 10th time as she said it the 1st time. A truly kind and caring soul.
When extremely upset about how close Maria came to being caught up in the 7/7 bombings, Grandma came over to where I was sitting and patted me on the shoulder. She couldn't have known or heard of the reason I was upset, but she understood the emotions she saw and did her best to comfort me. She said, "don't worry, it will all work out", "You can stay here if you like". Then I laughed out loud as I was already staying with her.
Her knowledge, intelligence and understanding always impressed me. She always cared for the people around her …“Are you hungry?”, “Did you eat?” Age did not stop her from being a perfect host, mother and grandmother. You always felt welcomed and wanted when visiting, feeling her enjoyment of having her family close by.
‘You know my husband built this house with his own hands'. She was extremely proud of the man she married and always carried him with her ... even long after he left this earth. Showing her strong, loving and caring heart. Always remembering the most important parts of her loved ones lives.
On a Saturday night, when we would be relaxing in the house, Grandma would often ask me ‘What are you doing tonight?' When I would respond with ‘nothing', she would say, ‘What's the matter? You can't get a date?' laughing she would then say ‘You don't have to date'. Despite the difficulties she was burdened with, she was still witty and playful. Which is how we will remember her.
One visual almost all of us have, is of her sitting peacefully sitting in her chair, of which most have a photo of. What changed between photos was the cushion, her clothes, her child, or grandchild, or great grandchild's face next to her.
Our uncles' and aunts' unwavering care of grandma over recent years and her final days was a beautiful example of love and unselfishness ...showing the cherished place she held in their hearts.
Grandma ...thank you. Your legacy will live on. You live on through your many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. You have touched all our lives. You will always be remembered.
Rest in Peace
All our love,
Your Bagnulo Grandkids
