I learned a lot from this wonderful woman. My condolences go out to her family and friends. She lived a full and blessed life. OLP Class of '94.

I was just thinking of Sister Joyce yesterday. I was in her Sophomore English World Lit. class, and I think it was the most challenging and growth filled classes I have taken in my 20 years of education. She asked each of us on the spot for an informed opinion, and now looking back it was a blessing to have a teacher who truly wanted to know what I thought.

But the reason I started thinking of her the other day, was because she also let me use her office to practice cello my senior year at OLP.

And I think that was her gift. To be so truly herself, that it made those around her feel like we could be our authentic selves too.

My prayers and thoughts are with Sister Joyce's family, friends, students, and colleagues.

I worked with Joyce when she first came to OLP. She wanted to be called "JOY" to share with all of us the gentle zest she had for education and community. She was Sister Dolores's faith-filled right hand, and IQ am saying a quiet, peaceful prayer for her community and her family, and in return, I hope she will pray for us.

Joyce was a sweet, caring and wonderful person. She was also incredibly well read, worldly and intelligent. I feel blessed to have known her and I greatly enjoyed the time that Patricia Hampel Valles and I spent with her and Sister Dolores at our home in Portland, Oregon and at Joyce's home in San Diego. She will be deeply missed. My hugs, love and condolences go out to her family, friends and all the Sisters, students and others whose lives she touched so profoundly.
