Yesterday I happened upon the news of Mrs. McMullen's passing by pure chance. She was my third grade teacher in 1983, and I can honestly say that she was one of my favorite teachers. I have fond memories of her reading great books to us and teaching us how to properly eat artichokes at one of our holiday potlucks. To my eight-year-old self, she struck me as erudite and worldly, and I wanted to be the best student I could be in her class. It was because of her that I felt challenged and had the confidence to try my best in school. I just recently completed my master's in International Relations, and after learning of her life, I am reminded of why I pushed myself to learn more about our big and complex world. She continues to inspire me to live a full and adventurous life. May you rest in peace, Mrs. McMullen—you are an inspiration!

MJ was a lovely person and a terrific teacher. I met MJ when I was principal at Avocado School. I was so grateful to have a teacher of MJ's caliber on the staff. She was an excellent teacher, caring and hard working. Because she always brought in artifacts and realia, her lessons were of great interest to the students. They couldn't help but be engaged as she shared her love of science and literature.

MJ was well respected by all the staff. She was never too busy to help out another teacher or talk with a parent. We loved and appreciated her sense of humor.

MJ made a huge difference in the lives of many children. God bless her!

MJ was a dedicated teacher at Avocado with a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor. Losing a parent, no matter what age we are, is a foundation shaking event. I hope it comforts you when you look back at the time you spent together and her amazing life.

I was an aide for MJ for 3 years. She was instrumental in getting me rehired after I moved away. She was one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. I think that I learned more from her than most of the students. She has always held a special place in my heart and continues to. My prayers to all of her family and for her as well. I do have to mention that I will always remember when she paved her own driveway! She could not get the tar out of her fingernails!! Always a friend, Johni Rogers
