BLACKSTONE - Pete passed away on January 12, 2016, at Landmark Hospital in Woonsocket, RI after a brief illness.
He was the loving and devoted husband to the late Barbara Anne Marchand, father to his three sons, Lee and Douglas (Blackstone, MA) and Gordon (Ridgefield, CT); father in-law to Gordon's wife, Marybeth Marchand and grandfather to Gordon and Marybeth's three children, Jonathan, Christy & Matthew. He was also the dutiful son to the late Lester and Yvonne Marchand and brother to the late Doris Germain, all of Woonsocket, brother in law to Walter Jacques of (Cumberland), Claire Reynolds and Armand Germain of Woonsocket.
Often referred to by his nickname "Pete" by his family and many friends, he was born in Woonsocket, RI on February 4th, 1928. At age 17 Pete left Woonsocket High School prior to graduation to join the US Coast Guard. After completing his tour of duty he entered Dean Academy to complete his high school degree. He entered the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in 1948 and studied abroad at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. Upon completion of his degree at Georgetown in 1952 he was recruited by the newly formed U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. After a short stint with the C.I.A. he decided to return to the Woonsocket area to begin his long career with Industrial Tool & Machine Company located in Georgiaville, RI. His decision to return to the area of his birth was inspired by his desire live close to his family and work with his closest childhood friends, Russell and Bobby Kalberer whose family owned the company. On May 1, 1954 he was married to his beloved wife of nearly sixty years, Barbara Anne Jacques, of Blackstone, MA. The couple initially settled in Woonsocket and later moved to Mendon Road in North Smithfield where they raised their three sons. Shortly after retiring from Industrial Tool & Machine Company as Vice President of Sales & Engineering he and his wife relocated to Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, Florida. After six years in Florida the couple returned to the area and settled in Blackstone, MA.
Pete lived his life as a gentle and caring soul, was always optimistic and loved by all who knew him.
