I'm saddened to hear of Don Cabana's passing and I regret I did not write to him while he was alive, to express my gratitude. His work enlarged my views and added a perspective I would not have understood, had he not spoken out.
I've always been opposed to the death penalty in principle. Yet, I hadn't thought about how, In particular, when society to assigns a fellow human being to carry out a killing, this act places an unbearable burden on that person.
I'd like to relay a story about the film interview - I hope his family will read this and that, in this way, I can also express gratitude for their support of his work and life.
Many years ago, our campus human rights group (Amnesty International) hosted a speaker, who showed part of the documentary with the interview of Don. There was a "Q and A" session afterward. And then it was time for the theater to empty. But no one moved. There were no more questions, but everyone stayed exactly as they were - silent. I've rarely experienced such a profound moment that stretched on and on. It was as though everyone was just absolutely caught up in the message and had to honor and absorb it. Don's honesty in relaying his own experience is an example we all will carry in our hearts.

I knew Don for many years as a practitioner and I taught with him at USM for many years. he was indeed a very good man and professor. His students admired him and his peers respected him. I shall miss him greatly. God be with you ole friend. And, I shall be joining you soon for lunch for once again.

I wish I had known him. I read his book "Death at Midnight" years ago and recognized what a great man he was. Prayers and sympathies to his family and friends. I'm sure he will be greatly missed.

I feel like I knew Mr. Cabana by hearing stories about him at work from his daughter, Angela. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man and am praying for his family.

Good Donald Arthur -- a natural and cherished teacher; a tough friend and always a challenge to my lack of spirit, my duty and contribution to self and others...he listened to me with his heart. He loved his enemies and carried them as keys to the truth of his own ways. God Bless this man for his years of tirelessness; may he be at peace; and may it comfort his beloved wife and family. JM (former Director of Training, Louisiana Department of Correction). Peace Upon thee!

There are no words to describe how we feel. I have lost my best friend, my mentor, my father. I am blessed to be able to say this great man was my dad. There are so many things my father taught us over the years, so much wisdom to soak up that even we took for granted. I want to thank my dad for teaching me about compassion towards others, unconditional love, and true family values. I am blessed that my father has left such a wonderful legacy for all to enjoy and look upon for guidance, even in his absence. I am truly blessed to have been chosen to be one of my fathers daughters. I believe my father is with each one of us everyday. He was truly the greatest man I have ever known. There was only one Don Cabana. I had the privilege of calling him daddy. I love you daddy more than any words will describe. I miss you but I know I will see you again. Love Always and Forever

I am so sorry to hear this news and send my deepest sympathy to Donald's family. We were friends in high school. After his book came out, he returned briefly to Easton and saw a few friends. We were so proud of him. He was a truly good man, and we send heartfelt condolences to his family.
