One of the signs of a wonderful man is his loyalty to his city and his University. Beano had both, was proud of both, and until his last breath was telling the world abot both. I first met Beano in 1958 as a fellow collegue in the Sports Information business, when I was at Xavier and we remained friends forever no matter where his journeys took him and mine took me to LSU and the Houston Oilers. There was never a time when his travels brought him to Houston, that we wouldn't get together.
Oh year, Beano was a very funny man, but what so many people never learned was that Beano also had a great understanding of the game of football.
I can see him now, sitting alongside the Lord and chiding a host of passed on football coaches, with smarts and humor.
I will miss Beano. So will college football.
