Bless you, Van Cliburn, for being one of music's - and America's - biggest ambassadors. You will definitely be missed. My deepest sympathy for your family and closest friends. The musical community has lost a great musician, and we have all lost a beautiful man.

Van, your level of impeccable musicianship has inspired me since I was a child. Thank you for raising the bar for all pianists with your virtuosity. You will live on forever as one of the greatest pianists that ever lived! God bless!

The Rachmaninoff concerto was the first album I received from my grandmother as a child in 1961. But my greatest memory was his 1970 performance at Chautauqua Institute, NY - the walked on the stage and played the National Anthem... I can close my eyes and still hear the anthem... and my most treasured possession is an autographed picture from a 1970 concert in Indianapolis. Yes, in the 1970's I wanted to be a Van Cliburn groupie. His contributions to music and music education will be missed.

My heart goes out to the family. You were the greatest pianist of all time. You inspired me at a very young age to take up playing the piano. I love you and may you rest in peace playing the big piano in the sky.

I was fortunate to attend the Cliburn competition when I lived in Fort Worth in the 1980's. It was a magnificent experience. You left your mark on the world, Mr. Cliburn. Bravo! Rest in Peace.

My acquaintance with Van was brief, but his grace and generosity of spirit left a lasting impression upon me. He was a great pianist, he was an even greater peacemaker. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.
