Douglas Scott Peabody, 62, son of and Max and the late Jean Peabody, passed away in one of his favorite places, his father's home in Sequim, WA., after battling liver cancer for four months. Doug was born in Anchorage, Alaska on July 31, 1952. He attended Chugach Elementary and Central Junior High Schools before moving to Bend, OR with his family in 1967 graduating from Bend High School in 1970. Doug worked on the Alaska Pipeline in Valdez in the mid-70's, returning to Oregon where he received his degree in Elementary Education from Portland State University. Doug had many passions, most notably music, sports and literature. His knowledge of popular music was breathtaking. His perfect day included skiing at Mt. Bachelor in the morning, golf in the afternoon, followed by a good sporting event in the evening, interspersed with music for the moment. His career included a stint as a jazz DJ, manager of Music Millennium (1985-1995) in Portland and owner of a popular used book store in Bend, The Open Book (1995-2014). Doug is survived by his former wife, Sheila Martin; daughter, Alison; father, Max Peabody and his wife, Mary; brothers, Max (Peggy), Richard (Malou) and Wim (Angelina); sister Amy (Joseph Godinet) and niece and nephew, Megan and Michael Peabody. There will be a memorial for Doug from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 at The Overlook House, 3839 N.E. Melrose Dr., Portland, OR 97227. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by Doug's family.

We were so surprised to hear the news - What great memories we have of the old days in Anchorage when Doug stayed with us, and in Bend. Please accept our condolences - we think of you all often - with love,

This was sad news to hear; my sympathies to all the family. I attended Chugach Elementary and Central Junior High with Doug and remember the goofy times on the playground and in the neighborhood. Sorry I never had the chance to catch up with him later in life.

So sorry to read about Doug. What a fun loving guy just like his parents. He was way too young for this to happen. Deepest sympathy to all the family.

So, so sorry for this loss. Doug broadened my musical boundaries; his play list includes songs with harps now...
