We never met face to face, but I spoke with Mr. Schuster by phone on numerous occasions regarding trail access on the Upper Hillside. Later, after I had a family of my own, I called Edmund on Easter morning to receive a weather report before we headed up to Glen Alps for our annual egg hunt at the overlook. He was a hard-working man of stature and principle who left us all a wonderful outdoor legacy. My deepest sympathy to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this. Eveline was a student of mine at UAA, and I knew Ed while we taught together. He was quite a guy and had a life of adventure.

To Edmund's family - I am so very sorry for your loss. Edmund and I got to know each other through his efforts to donate land in the Homer bench lands for a state park. Through his efforts, Edmund donated 120 acres of prime land for cross country skiing and summer trail use. Eveline State Recreation Area, named in honor of his late wife Eveline will benefit Alaskans for years to come. He will not be forgotten.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your father and friend. I had Mr. Schuster at "ACC" in 1970 or 1971 for Sociology.. I actually learned a great deal but what I remember most is his accent....one day (I don't even remember what he was telling us) but it was about someone on a pedestal and he pronounced it ped-ES-tal. I hope you have wonderful memories to carry you a life time.. He was a great teacher! Charlene Rector
