Our family is completely devastated by the loss of not just our friend, but a man that we considered family. We enjoyed each and every minute of our time with this wonderful man. Our lives were brightened by his sweet spirit, and great conversation's, and love for all mankind.

Prayer for Q

Father,
God of all consolation in Your unending love and mercy for us, You turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life. Show compassion to Your people in their sorrow. Be our refuge and our strength to lift us from the darkness of this grief to the peace and light of Your presence. Your son, our Lord Jesus Christ, by dying for us, conquered death and, by rising again, restored life. May we go forward eagerly to meet Him, and after our life on earth be reunited with our brothers and sisters where every tear will be wiped away. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen

I considered Gary a friend, and was shocked and saddened to hear that he had died. I had mentioned to Gina that he hadn't been in to Sullivan's in a while, and I wondered if he was okay. He came into Sullivan's often on the nights he was in town and he knew I was playing. We shared many good conversations about the arts, music, the world etc. I will never forget the time that we went to a master class on music held by Chick Corea.

Does any one know of a address to send condolences to his family.

His family will be in our prayers.

Gary R. Lyles Family:

I had the privilage to work with Gary, when he came to work in Anchorage from 2000 to 2003. He kept in contact here and there, and had just returned to our company in November 2007.

Gary was kind to all he came in contact with, and left a special piece of himself...with everyone he met. He truly cared and brought the best out in people...and we will miss his bright smile and caring spirit.

From one of his many colleagues he worked with, we will continue to live through the treasures he left behind. I will never forget his kindness and love toward others. It is hard to believe he is gone.

May God bring peace and strength to all his friends and family...during this difficult time.

Dear Lyles Family,

I was saddened to read in the Anchorage paper about Gary’s death. I didn’t know Gary long, but I always loved it when he came in to Sullivans to hear me play in a jazz duo. I felt honored that a man with such a deep understanding of jazz would listen to me, and I enjoyed it even more during breaks when I could talk with him about any subject - his latest travels, children, music . . . he was interested in so many things and communicated his knowledge and enthusiasm with quiet intensity. I will miss him. My prayers are with you.
