Joanne Mareen Steele (Hurst) passed away in the loving arms of family members at the home of her youngest son Ryan Hurst of Murrieta, California on
October 5, 2011. Joanne was born in Anchorage, February 28, 1948 to Reed A. Steele and Dorothy J. Steele (Fitzgerald). After high school (class of 1966), Joanne married Robert Dean Hurst and accompanied him throughout his military life. While stationed in various locations throughout the world, Joanne bore and raised three boys; Douglas, Ronald and Ryan Hurst. Joanne acquired a great love for genealogy and shared many stories of generations past with all those she knew. Joanne was a kind person who showed love/compassion and care for
all who were fortunate to have her in their lives. Joanne shared a special lifelong friendship with the neighborhood family of Bill and Mabel Hash. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her and were touched by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; Reed and Dorothy Steele, brother Michael James Steele as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles on both sides of the family. She is survived by her husband Robert Dean Hurst of Navarre, Florida; sons Douglas, Ronald and Ryan Hurst of Murrieta, California and younger brother Grant A. Steele of Anchorage. At Joanne's request, her ashes will be spread upon the waters of Cook Inlet at the family's commercial set net site (summer of 2012). The family request donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor.
All correspondence can be directed to the home of brother, Grant Steele, 195 Ocean Park Drive, Anchorage, AK 99515. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.

we went to school together at Copper valley Boarding school in Alaska in the 60's. we were room mates....and had some really fun times. and after graduation in Anchorage before we were both married. we visited each other when our children were very young in Calif. We reunited in Alaska for Reunions 2005, 2006. and she came to visit me in Tucson 2x in 2007. we remained friends through a lifetime, through letters and phone calls. What i remember most about joanne is her genuine compassion for people, she really listened and cared. She had such a tender heart....a truer friend can not be had.....and so I say thank you Joanne for being my true friend......loving and missing you. Bette Rines Kibble
