Goodbye Coach. You will truly be missed.

Coach Pete was an inspiration! I have fond memories of weight training class, and can still hear his voice when I go to the gym. He will be greatly missed!

My sincere sympathy to Jean. Coach Pete was a wonderful coach and inspiring human being. I remember saying the team prayer before meets and finishing with "Yagottawanna". I'll never forget his ability to motivate that drive out of us athletes, never forget his smile, or those hugs after a race well-run. God's blessings to the family and others who mourn his passing.

Like Generations of East High School Students, I Would Like to Say Something About “Coach Pete” of East High - Whom We Recently Lost.
I Was Dismissed as Running & Skiing Coach @ Service High on May 7, 1981 While Undergoing Spinal Surgery. Afterwards It Was “Coach Pete” Who Got me Back Into Coaching @ East High. I Returned Because of His Infectious/Positive Attitude & Outlook Towards Life. IF…I Was Able to Influence Any Kids in a Positive Way After That…It Was Because “Coach Pete” Went Out of His Way to Help me Get Back into What I Loved: Being a Coach! On Behalf of…ALL… Whose Lives You Touched, Sir: THANK YOU!!! Tom Corbin…Anchorage School District 1971-2000.

Coach Pete was like a father to many of us. Strangely just a couple days ago I recalled his scowl when he saw me in the hallway after I skipped his class. "You're better than that," he said. Never reported me. Didn't have to. That scowl stuck with me. Everybody wanted to be on his good side. Me included.

Coach Peterson has been a lifelong inspiration. He had the rare ability to make every kid feel like the most important player on the field and to give our best. As much as I respected him as a coach, he also felt like my best friend.
Its very sad to learn of his passing and my thoughts are with his family.

Aunt Jean does not do computers, but I have been reading all of the entries to her. She is very touched and comforted to know so many of Uncle Pete's former students and athletes think so much of him. I will get all postings and pictures to her in print. He was a fabulous uncle, and I miss him.

Coach Pete impacted many lives during his years as an educator. He had a way of giving attention just at the right time. It might have been a little pointer, a little joke or a huge bear hug. He taught me how to laugh at myself instead of beat myself up when I made mistakes.

RIP Coach Pete. Thanks for all you did for us!
