Karen Ann (Hobson) Gregg, 54, died March 21, 2010, at Providence Alaska Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with a reception afterward in the Fireside Room at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 8427 Jewel Lake Road.
Karen was born in Fairbanks in the Territory of Alaska in 1956, delighting friends and family at the age of 3 when she believed the celebration of Alaska's statehood in 1959 was for her birthday.
She later attended school in Oregon, graduating from Springfield High School.
Beyond her educational years, Karen wore many hats. She was a homemaker, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, business woman and also a gifted hairdresser. She made and treasured friends, always making many realize they were special to her and to others. She always knew what to say and just how to say it.
Karen constantly opened her home to those in need, from the stray cat to the stray person.
She especially enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. Her home was often the gathering place for parties of all occasions. Her radiant, caring personality drew people to her. Her beautiful smile and laughter will be missed.
Karen is survived by her mother, Lynn Hobson; her husband, David Gregg; and their children: son, David (Jamey) James Gregg and daughter, Erica (husband Trey Miller and son Toby); her sister, Jan Sisler and her children Rick (wife Vilma), Ryan and Robin (wife Sunnya); their father, Richard Sisler; her brother, Larry Hobson and his son Travis; her brother, Daniel Hobson (wife Tonya and their children Cody and Zackary); her two brothers who live in Texas: Dale (wife Donna) and Jim (wife Diana); her cats, Freddy, Mariah and Pebbles; and many additional relatives in the Lower 48.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Hobson; her sister, Lisa Gail; and her loving canine companion, Kaydee.
Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Pets, P.O. Box 240981, Anchorage 99524 or the American Cancer Society.

Hey Karen,
Just got to the Bahamas yesterday. Wish you could have seen it. We still miss you every day. Elias is growing up so fast and at the moment he needs a haircut really bad. He has only had one since the last time you cut his hair! We love you and miss you always.
Love Rick, Vilma and Elias

I have no words which could possibly express how much Karen meant to me, I lived for her and tried to provide her the best I knew how, especially her freedom and a large home so she could invite her many friends. In all, she only saw the good, always the optimist. We took our vows for better or worse and we shared some very good years and she loved me unconditionally during the bad years when most would have left. "A guy could", (a quote from her father, Glenn) never find another like her in several lifetimes.

I can't adaquately express how much I miss and love you. I so lonely without you. You mean everything to me. You gave me your love for 29 years and I know in my heart you would have given me your love in the years to come. I am so sad without you. I will always love you and I will never forget you.

We were so sorry to hear of your loss. The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow. She was an outstanding person and will be missed by all. First time she gave me a haircut she cut my ear and I still went back for more! My parents would love to come to town from Bethel to get their haircut by Karen, it was a special time for my mother and her to bond.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Karen's passing. I always looked forward to our conversations while having my hair cut and colored all the way back to her Silver Scissor Salon days. She had a wonderful heart and will be missed by many. Wishing her family & friends strength and comfort.

Karen was the best friend a person could ask for. She gave to others before herself. She loved her animals including her brother Larry's dog Layla who she watched from time to time. She loved her family and her friends. I, personally am lost without her. I know as everyone tells me that we'll get through this, but I'm having a difficult time. I miss her and there is a hole in my heart where Karen used to be. She loved and accepted unconditionally. That's a first for me. God Bless you my dear friend and I'll see you when God calls me. He got a heck of an Angel in you! My love and prayers to your family as I know they miss you dearly. You were one of a kind.
