It's a real treat to read of Mr. Windeler's accomplishments. My knowledge is of him and his homestead down on the Peninsula. We shall miss another one of our long-time Alaskans. Lillian Person (Chugiak, AK)

I only knew Leon in his later years, as Honora's father. He seemed a gentle soul. I know the loss of a parent, especially after a long illness, is both difficult and, in some ways, a relief. May he dwell in your memory as a whole and vibrant person.

Your father was probably the most future thinking person that I have ever met. I worked with him to add locally produced television in the Anchorage schools. He was great at challenging us with new ideas. He was a very special person, ready to listen and consider other's ideas and point of view.

Leon was my teach in 1955 at Anchorage High. I have always had good memories of him. Science was a fovorite subject of mine probably because of Leon.my thoughts are out to you.

Mr. Windeler was a permanent part of education in this community. He was principal at Old Central when many of us attended there. He sure lived a full and active life. Best wishes to his family.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

our condolences to Leon's family. I will never forget him sitting in front of us at church.

My deepest sympathy to the Wendler family. I taught under Leon some more than fifty years ago at Central Junior High -- the old high school down between Fifth & Sixth Avenue [1959-1962]prior to going to NEW Central [1962] at 15th Avenue and C Street. Leon encouraged me to host a 45 minute daily class with 8th graders learning Modern Geometry on KTVA while at the OLD Central as a young teacher. I remember Leon for his professionalism in teaching and encouraging young teacher to become better teachers -- I, too, remember him well over the last half century.

The thoughts and hearts of everyone at Hospice of Anchorage are with Leon’s family and friends--our support is available to anyone in his circle who would like to be in touch. We share your sorrow and wish you all moments of comfort and peace…
