MaryAnn Gervell Obituary

MaryAnn Gervell passed away on Aug. 10, 2018, in Memphis, Tenn. She was 93. MaryAnn was born on June 7, 1925, in Memphis to the late Vincent and Felipa Salemi. She met her husband William M. Gervell at a dance in Memphis and they were married in June 1946. They lived in Memphis until 1954, when they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, so that Bill could take a civil service position on Fort Richardson. Although MaryAnn was a stay-at-home mother to their children for many years, she also worked for the Anchorage Daily News, Nordstrom's, the State of Alaska Division of Forestry and the State Attorney General's Office.
MaryAnn loved to cook, enjoyed playing pinochle and bingo, was an avid reader of romance novels and volunteered with numerous organizations.
Bill passed away in 1990, and MaryAnn moved back to the Memphis area in 1994. She is survived by her children, Bill Gervell and his wife Pat of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mike Gervell, Phyllis Gervell and Tom Gervell and his wife JoAnn, all of Anchorage; and by her grandchildren: Bill's sons, Sean and Brian Gervell of Aurora, Colo.; Phyllis's daughter, Tracy (McQueen) Goodin of Glendale, Ky.; and Tom and JoAnn's children, Jerret and LeeAnn Gervell of Anchorage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her five siblings; her husband, William M. Gervell; and an infant daughter, also named MaryAnn.
MaryAnn's funeral was held on Aug. 13, 2018, in Memphis. Contributions can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis. Condolences can be sent to her family by sending them to Mike Gervell, 640 West 88th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99515.
