Robert Scott Johnson died from a fall while hunting mountain goats in the mountains of the Kenai Peninsula on September 4, 2011
Robert was born in Spokane, Washington on June 27, 1973. He moved to Alaska in July of 1983 and was a graduate of Dimond High School class of 1991. Upon graduation, Robert joined the U.S. Army and served as a Ranger with the 1st Battalion, 75th Regiment. A hard worker, Robert was a trade-school-licensed truck driver and graduate of the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, becoming a certified Harley Davidson Technician. Robert's most recent employment was with the Anchorage School District as a heavy equipment operator.
Robert was a passionate, diverse outdoorsman. He was an accomplished hunter, hiker, fisherman, and trapper who loved the beautiful State of Alaska. His other interests included painting, gold panning, bar-b-cueing and he was an expert fly fisherman, very skilled at tying his own flies.
There was no such thing as a stranger to Robert, as he opened his heart to those beyond his family and touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. His enthusiasm for life was surpassed only by his love for family.
Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Robert is survived by his wife, Tamara Keene-Johnson, his son Teal Johnson, his step-son Preston Lanum, his step-daughter Whitney Welch, his mother Norma Jo Johnson, his father David Johnson, his mother-in-law Judy Mathewson, his sister Leslie Rentfro, his brother Scott Johnson, his son's mother Krystal Johnson, his mentor, father figure and friend Fred Klouda, Martin Johnson and Grant Gaberino, two men who started out as hunting and fishing buddies and became his brothers.
His loss has left a gaping hole in the lives of all who loved him.
There will be a celebration of life at the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum on Saturday, September 17th at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to the college fund for Robert's son, Teal Johnson at True North Federal Credit Union, 341 West Tudor Road #100, Anchorage, AK 99503, Attn: UTMA for Teal Johnson.

Been 8 years. When I look to the mountains I think of you. It hasn't been easy, he ask about you, lots of things he forgot, but I try to fill in the best I can. Pretty soon he'll be in Georgia, I know you know what that means. I hope you would be proud because I am. Thank you for the blessing that we had shared.

I went Hunting today in Blue Fox Bay, where Robert came with my brother Fred, who loved Robert deeply. Felt your presence very much in the woods Robert, a buck sprinted through a light beam in the forest, no way could I even come close to getting a shot off, but I thought you might have. We still feel your presence here. God Bless! All of your family and friends, your are still influencing our days!

Robert had a way of becoming your friend quickly; before you knew it, he was a member of your family, as if he'd been there all along. I suspect he could hardly walk to the end of his driveway to check his mail without making a new friend on the way! It wasn't hard to see why. He took a sincere interest in everyone he met, and his generosity was legendary among those who knew him. It's rare to meet a person so relentlessly upbeat, energetic, and just plain fun to be around. He will be missed.

Robert, our family was greatly blessed by having you become a part of it. I will always picture you with that big beautiful smile that that was truly heartfelt. Your loyalty as a friend was beyond compare. I will miss you not being at my brother Fred's house always working on something or fixing something. I will always treasure and remember this past Christmas eve spent with both of our families. You are a star that burned bright but far too short. You truly will NEVER be forgotten.

Robert, I will never look at the Mountians around Blue Fox with out picturing you there, standing on the beach, smiling, waiting for the skiff to pick you up at the end of a hunting day. I feel so fortunate to have spent time with you when you were so centered in a wilderness enviroment you seemed so naturally born to. But your passion wasn't limited to the wilds, your pride and loyalty in and to those you loved taught us all something. Your joyful intensity will be missed but never forgotten. We carry you with us....."Wild as colts unbroke, but never mean" Robert Service

Robert was a huge part of our family and my Dad's everyday life. He was always welcome in our home and helped us out with so many things! A man of so many talents, Robert was such a unique individual. His life was unfairly cut short, but the time he spent with all of us was top quality and very memorable. I miss him tremendously. "Thank you for being such a great friend to my Dad and our family. We love you Robert."

Robert was a totally unique individual, akin to the Energizer Bunny powered by a Copper-Top battery. He was a river of energy, had a heart and home that welcomed all, his family was his priority. Robert was an incredible artist, his paintings beyond words to describe their beauty. His passing will leave a gaping hole in the heart and life of his Alaskan friend and father-figure, Fred Klouda. We will all carry Robert's goodness in our hearts and thoughts. Robert, we will miss you and that million dollar smile. Safe journey, my friend.

There are no words to describe what Robert meant to my family and me. His presence on the fishing boat or in the hunting camp made every adventure more enjoyable. His generosity and willingness to help everyone else put him in a class by himself. Roberts enthusiasm and love of life were infectious to others around him. His love for Tammy and the rest of his family was his greatest joy. I will do my best to make sure his son Teal knows what an incredible person his father was. Rest in peace my friend. Fred klouda

My sincerest thoughts and condolences to Roberts’s family. I met Robert for the first time this past spring, and only got to know him for about a week while he was purchasing a truck camper from me. During that short time though I could see that Robert was a man of good values and principles, a very passionate outdoorsman, and someone who cared deeply about his family. He just seemed to have such an enthusiastic and positive attitude for everything in life. His passing is a tragic loss. Rest in peace.
