Mr. Bain was one of my favorite teachers (7th grade in Petersburg)and his family were members of our church. He did tell a few stories about his buddies in the war but I was surprised to learn that he was one of the "Band of Brothers". A humble, kind man, he certainly deserved the fame and travel that came from that. Donelle, children and families - may your memories sustain and comfort you. God bless. -

Rod was a college classmate of mine at Western Washington. In 1958 my wife and I and our 3 children made a trip from Shelton,Wa in a 21ft outboard cruiser to visit Rod in Petersburg,Ak where he was teaching. He was a great guy and one of my best friends in college. His wife Donelle was a roomate of my wife in College He helped to get me a teaching job in Petersburg in 1960.

I had Mr. Bain for may 6th grade teacher at North Star in the early 60's. He is the teacher I remember the most. He showed WW2 news reels about once a week in class which I loved. One day after a movie he told me how good a shot the Germans were. I remember thinking how much action had he seen, now I know after 50 years. He took the class on tv to be on the buckarue club. He was very involved with our class. The world lost a great man.
